JUPITER, FL—Saturday at the 2017 World Wood Bat Championship had a full slate of games after rain interrupted much of Friday. Playoffs start Sunday afternoon and the Canes National squad made a move in hopes of bringing back one of their top arms on Monday. RHP Austin Becker (Big Walnut HS, OH) started against DRB Elite and went two innings, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out one. PBR Ontario’s George Halim was on hand for the quick, but electric appearance:
There wasn’t a patch of grass in sight as golf carts flooded in to get a look at the Vanderbilt recruit. Slotted at No. 25 on the 2018 PBR Draft 100, Becker came out gunning in his first of two innings of work, sitting 93-95 mph, touching 96 with minimal effort and plus arm speed. Despite notching just one strikeout, the fastball shows arm-side life and sink when he worked it down in the zone. The curveball sat in the 77-78 range with bite, and even though he didn’t flash the changeup much, it had fade and depth to it, making for some uncomfortable at-bats for DRB Elite.
Here are some more highlights from Saturday’s action…
