Super 60: Alabama Recap

On Sunday, two players from Alabama had the opportunity to represent the state at the PBR Super 60 pro showcase for the first time in the state's history. This showcase, one of the premier events in the country for eligible high school draft prospects, played host to the top players the country had to offer in front over 100 professional scouts. 

For today, the PBR Alabama staff will look back at the performances from '21 C Max Soliz, Jr. (Bob Jones HS, Arkansas signee) and '21 3B Slate Alford (Bob Jones HS, Mississippi State signee) at one of PBR's most prestigious events on the calendar year. We've broken down both prospects and provided statistics, metrics, and insight from this past Sunday's event in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

+ Soliz, Jr., an Arkansas signee, stood out immediately amongst his peers with a 6-foot-5, 220 pound frame. Ranked as the No. 4 player in the Class of 2021 in Alabama, Soliz, Jr. put on display his best tool at the Super 60, which was his bat. He was consistently on the barrel with 95+ mph exit velocities during his round. Using a violent, but controlled approach, he displayed strong, quick hands with excellent feel for driving the ball to the middle of the field, as well as to the pull side where many of his top exit velocities registered. His max distance, according to Trackman, was 368 ft with a max exit velocity of 102.13 mph. Behind the plate, Soliz, Jr. showcased above average feet with a strong arm on throws to 2nd base. Moves & blocks well for his size.

+ Alford, a Mississippi State signee, attended his first PBR showcase this past Sunday at the Super 60 and did not disappoint in most facets. Continuing to trend upward, Alford displayed a more simple, professional-like approach to his BP round in front of tons of professional scouts. At 6-foot-3, 220 pounds, he's completely changed his body and added more muscle & strength to the already physical frame. Offensively, he showed a short, compact stroke with excellent feel for the barrel. He consistently hammered balls with high exit velocities to both gaps, registering a max of 101.18 mph. It's a very simple swing with a whippy barrel and not much wasted movement throughout. Defensively, should have no trouble staying at the hot corner in college and beyond. The feet and glove work well off of each other, showing easy actions moving to his left and right. He registered a max infield velocity of 84 mph with accuracy to the 1st base bag. If he ends up in Starkville, Alford should be able to make an immediate impact once he arrives on campus.
