Mizuno Golden Spikes 2020 vs. Dinger Nation Black 17U
-This game was definitely a battle between two solid arms, one of the two being ‘20 RHP Nasson Rodriguez (Madison Ridgeland Academy; MS) who came out and K’d the first 6 men that he faced. With smooth and repeatable mechanics the 6’2 205 lbs kid showed a FB: 83-85 that he could spot up anywhere in the strike zone and a wipeout SL: 71-73 that had the Dinger Nation hitters off balance in the 2-1 win. Rodriguez finished with 7 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB and 12 K’s

-Even though Dinger Nation Black 17U come up short in today's game, you can’t fail to mention the pitching performance from ‘20 RHP John Whiteside (Haleyville HS) who competed and gave his team a chance by forcing Mizuno Golden Spikes into many ground ball outs. The 6’4 155 lbs RHP has plenty of room to grow in his frame and has the potential to add some velocity as well. Today he showed a FB: 79-82 with some ASR along with a CB: 69-71. Whiteside finished his outing with 6 IP, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 0 BB and 2 K’s.
We have a pitchers game over on Field 2. ‘20 RHP John Whiteside of Haleyville HS has produced multiple groundball outs this morning for @dingernationbb Black 17U. 6’4 155 lbs frame has plenty of room to grow. FB: 79-82 has some ASR along with CB: 69-71. @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/FjUwChTL0y

Georgia Grays 17U vs. Baysox Baseball Academy 17U
-The Baysox offense really hit their stride in the 3rd by putting up 4 runs and never looked back for the rest of the game. ‘20 2B Hayden Smith (St. Paul’s Episcopal) started things with a 2 RBI double down the LF line after hitting a ball off the LF wall in the 1st inning. ‘20 C/3B Peyton Cowart (Faith Academy) followed him up with a missile to LF after working the count to 3-0 to bring in Smith from 2nd. Later that inning, ‘20 SS John Griffin Bell (Faith Academy; Auburn recruit) sat back on a breaking ball and stuck it to CF for a base hit.

-In the 5th, ‘21 OF/RHP Will Passeau (St. Paul’s Episcopal) had a quality AB, as he worked the count to 3-2 and sat back on a breaking ball and stuck it to LF for a base knock. Impressive frame. Will attend the PBR Future Games next week.
Pretty advanced approach from ‘21 OF/RHP Will Passeau (@WillPasseau; St. Paul’s). Works the count to 3-2 then shoots a breaking ball to LF for a single for @BaysoxBBAcademy 17U. 4-0 in the 5th. Easley Baseball Club 16U Goforth vs. Complete Game 16U
-’22 C David Bell (Greenbrier HS; GA) really caught our attention in his 1st AB of the morning. In the tweet below, Bell connects with a pitch and drives it deep into the LCF gap to bring home the first 2 runs of the game for Complete Game 16U. Bell also was very solid defensively, as he shut down the running game at C. Bright future ahead for the rising sophomore.
Over on Field 5, ‘22 C David Bell (Greenbrier HS; @PBRGeorgia) extends the @Complete_Game_ 16U lead to 2-0 early in the 1st with this RBI double to deep LCF. Has been solid defensively all tournament as well. @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/NEyjphT8uX

-What really got things going for Easley Baseball Club come in the B2. After a 2B off the fence in RF from ‘21 Brady Holloway (Evangelical Christian; TN) and a bunt single from ‘21 Braxton Miller (Center Hill HS; MS), the ‘21 OF CJ Thomas (Memphis University; TN) rips an RBI single into LF to score Holloway and give Easley Baseball Club some momentum that eventually carried them to a win over Complete Game.

Easley Baseball Club 15U Williams vs. Triton Rays 15U
-Arguable one of the top offensive performances of the day came from ‘22 C/3B Brooks Bryan (Opelika HS). His hot streak continued this morning as the LH bat went 2-3 w/ a 1B, 2B, 2 RBI’s and a BB in Game 1. Everything that he hits is gap to gap and is not afraid to shoot a ball to the opposite field. An advanced hitter for his age. See his 2 RBI double below..
Another day, another oppo double for ‘22 C Brooks Bryan (@brooksbryan16; @BaseballOpelika). This time the physical LH bat brings home 2 runs to extend @NLB_Rays 15U’s lead to 7-0 in the 2nd. Love his approach. @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/5TZpqqyY4W

Mizuno Golden Spikes 2020 vs. Showcase 17U Riley
-Really liked what we saw from the big, physical ‘20 OF Yosuany Herrera (John Overton Comprehensive; TN) all weekend. The big man was able to get things started for Showcase Riley in the B2 where he laced a double up the middle for an RBI to put his team up 1-0 early. Herrera also added another RBI single later in the B3 to extend the lead and help his team to a 5-1 win.

-’21 RHP Jameson Nephew (Siegel HS; TN) came out and pitched with emotion. The RHP threw 5 innings, showing great FB command throughout his outing and showed a 12/6 like CB as well. He relied on his FB: 80-84 and for the most part didn’t have to throw the CB: 64-66 as he expected. During his 5 IP today, Nephew allowed 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB and 4 K’s.
Back over on Field 2 the ‘21 RHP Jameson Nephew of Siegel HS (@PBRTennessee) is through 5 IP for Showcase 17U Riley and only allowed 2 hits. Showing great FB command throughout his outing. FB: 80-84 and a 12/6 CB: 64-66. @PBRTournaments pic.twitter.com/Kko6lwRvy1

Triton Rays 16U vs. Excel Blue Wave 16U
-This matchup featured a pitcher’s duel, as both starters went 6 innings each. For Excel Blue Wave, ‘21 LHP Eli Copenhaver (Spain Park HS) struggled with command at times in the 1st but locked in from the 2nd inning on. His line finished 6 IP, 4 H’s, 3 ER’s (all in the 1st), 2 BB’s and 7 K’s. FB: 79-82; T84 w/ tail. SL: 71-72 w/ late break and deception.

-Triton Rays countered with ‘21 RHP Adam Depew (Russell County HS) and pitched his tail off for 6 ⅓ innings. His FB was not overpowering (78-80), but he knew how to pitch and showed plus command. His CH (71-72) was his calling card to RHH’s, as he generated many swings and misses with it. His CB was an above average pitch at 70-71. He held a very potent offense to 3 H’s, 1 ER (1st inning), and 6 K’s.
‘21 RHP Adam Depew (@Depewadam1; @RCHSBaseball) has settled in nicely for @NLB_Rays 16U after allowing a run in the 1st. Scattered 2 H’s thru 4 IP and struck out 4. -One of the better pitching performances from the weekend came from the Louisiana State University-Eunice commit Caleb Seroski. In his outing today, he mixed both his FB and SL consistently in the zone. Seroski went CG in the semifinal win for United 17U. His FB (82-85) had some late ASR and his SL (68-70) produced many swing and misses today. His final line in this one 7 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB and 8 K’s. His FB: 83-85 was painting the corners, with his SL: 73-75 to back it up. He went the distance and finished with 4 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 2 BB and 4 K’s to lead Showcase 17U Riley to a 12-2 championship win.
