South Alabama Preseason All-State: Pitcher Reports

We wrap up our post-event coverage today by taking a look at all of the pitchers that were present at the event.

Ben Arendale, Tuscaloosa County (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds. Evenly distributed strength.
Delivery: Quick, compact delivery with minimal movement.
Arm Action: RH. Tight arm circle from a high 3/4 slot, ball comes out of the hand easily.
FB: T83.3, 81.3-82.8 mph. Showed life through the zone, was mostly straight but showed occasional armside life.  T2143, 2061 average rpm.
CB: 66.7-68.5 mph. Tight 11/5 action that showed late break, commanded well to the gloveside.  T1971, 1872 average rpm.
CH: 71.4-72.9 mph. Same arm speed as the fastball. Mostly straight with late sink.  T1580, 1325 average rpm.

Chris Billingsley, Bibb County (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Continues to impress as a high-end arm for the 2023 class.
Body: 6-3, 170-pounds. Athletic, proportional strength throughout the frame.
Delivery: Smooth rhythm with easy effort, shoulders remain level, works in line, athletic, squared finish.
Arm Action: RH. Long, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T87.5, 83.5-86.3 mph. Two-seam type, around the zone command, nice downhill plane.  T2029, 1961 average rpm.
CB: 63.8-66.2 mph. Sharp 11/5 break with some late depth.  T2455, 2339 average rpm.
SL: 68.9-71.3 mph. Sharp break with movement similar to curveball. More of a power breaking ball type.  T2429, 2303 average rpm.

Garrett Blacklock, Grissom (AL), 2025
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Impressive two-way 2025 prospect.
Body: 6-2, 165-pounds. Evenly distributed strength with a proportional frame.
Delivery: Up tempo delivery with nice rhythm throughout..
Arm Action: RH. Mid 3/4 slot from a compact arm path on the backside.
FB: T81.5, 80.0-81.3 mph. Slight arm-side action, spotted at the knees for strikes T2129, 2086 average rpm.
CB: 72.5-72.7 mph. 11/5 shape, flashed feel for the zone.  T1833, 1746 average rpm.
SL: 76.5-77.6 mph. Showed solid side-to-side action with late movement.  T1951, 1910 average rpm.
CH: 74.3-76.7 mph. Solid deception with late tumble into RH hitters.  T1720, 1688 average rpm.

Bryce Cain, Baker (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: OFLHP Legit two- way talent in the 2024 AL class.
Body: 5-11, 160-pounds. High-waisted. Long, athletic frame.
Delivery: Up-tempo with easy effort.
Arm Action: Shorter arm action into a high 3/4 slot. Hides ball well from hitters.
FB: T83, 81.3-82.7 mph. Pounded the lower third of the zone, showed arm side action on occasion.  T1945, 1881 average rpm.
CB: 67.6-72.5 mph. 1/7 action, gradual break with command to the bottom of the zone.  T1926, 1836 average rpm.
CH: 72.8-75.6 mph. Arm-side run with some sink, very deceptive pitch.  T1481, 1420 average rpm.

Brendan Conner, Corner (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: RHP/3B
Body: 6-0, 195-pounds. Compact, strong frame.
Delivery: Simple, controlled delivery, strides in line to target.
Arm Action: RH. Tight arm circle with quickness from a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T85.9, 84.6-85.6 mph. Commanded the lower half of the zone, fastball seemed "heavy" with some natural sink.  T2138, 2037 average rpm.
CB: 73.6-74.0 mph. Showed late, fairly sharp downer action.  T2136, 2050 average rpm.
SL: 77.4-78.2 mph. Was similar to the curveball in terms of depth, minimal late movement.  T2403, 2376 average rpm.
CH: 75.5-77.6 mph. Works with similar arm speed to fastball, mostly straight.  T1848, 1796 average rpm.

Eli Driskell, Faith Academy (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: RHP/3B A top 2024 uncommitted arm.
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds. Athletic build, strong lower half.
Delivery: Creates momentum downhill, shoulders stay level, strides in line to target, repeats delivery every pitch.
Arm Action: Quick arm draw on the backside, high 3/4 slot. Above-average arm speed.
FB: T89.1, 87.0-88.8 mph. The pitch seems to take off through the zone with occasional arm side action.  T2347, 2307 average rpm.
CB: 72.1-73.6 mph. Threw for strikes, high spin off of a 11/5 plane.  T2468, 2443 average rpm.
SL: 77.3-77.8 mph. Very similar shape and depth as the curveball, really late action.  T2592, 2554 average rpm.
CH: 81.2-82.4 mph. Consistently played down in the zone with late fade.  T2047, 1989 average rpm.

Connor Fadalla, Baker (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP
Body: 6-0, 205-pounds. Broad shoulders, strong lower-half.
Delivery: Controlled drop-and-drive delivery with effort, high balance point, works in line, lands square, falls off.
Arm Action: RH. Short, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T73.5, 72.3-73.2 mph. Mostly straight with command around the zone.  T1820, 1760 average rpm.
CB: 62.5-63.4 mph. Slower breaking ball with gradual shape, developing 12/6 action.  T1662, 1622 average rpm.

Connor Gatwood, Baker (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: SS/3B Interesting 2024 to follow.
Body: 6-3, 170-pounds. Long, proportional frame with plenty of room for added strength.
Delivery: Athletic, controlled delivery. Easy and repeatable.
Arm Action: RH. Quick arm from a high 3/4 slot. Long arm swing on the back.
FB: T87, 84.3-86.5 mph. Showed arm side action that played in the lower third of the zone.  T2468, 2376 average rpm.
CB: 76.8-78.3 mph. Sharp break with 11/5 shape, showed really late action.   T2062, 2024 average rpm.
CH: 77.5-77.8 mph. Played mostly straight but showed legit sink.  T1175, 1130 average rpm.

Bryson Goff, Saraland  (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-4, 190-pounds. Strength throughout a well proportioned frame.
Delivery: Up-tempo, balanced delivery with strong lower half.
Arm Action: LH. High 3/4 slot, does a nice job creating tilt and really driving off the mound.
FB: T82.4, 81.0-82.4 mph. Located in the bottom half of the zone with late movement to the arm side.  T1974, 1926 average rpm.
CB: 65.5-74.6 mph. Sharp 1/7 break with advanced feel for the pitch.    T1869, 1659 average rpm.
CH: 65.6-71.1 mph. Sinking action with fastball arm speed.  T1908, 1657 average rpm.

Case Hager, Gulf Shores (AL), 2022
Positional Profile: LHP/OF LHP that recently moved into the state that can really pitch.
Body: 5-11, 187-pounds. Athletic, strong build.
Delivery: Tall, balanced delivery with minimal movement and compact, controlled actions.
Arm Action: LH. Long, loose arm action, 3/4 slot
FB: T83.2, 81.4-82.6 mph. Commands the pitch extremely well with legitimate late side run to the arm side.  T2262, 2129 average rpm.
CB: 70.7-72.4 mph. Late 1/7 action with spin difficult to pick up.  T2428, 2304 average rpm.
CH: 77.8-79.5 mph. Arm-side run with late sink, solid feel for the pitch.  T1958, 1857 average rpm.

Kaden Heatherly, Chelsea (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/1B
Body: 6-5, 220-pounds. Long limbed, highly projectable frame.
Delivery: Controlled, tall-and-fall delivery with smooth rhythm, works in line, lands squared with home.
Arm Action: Long arm action, 3/4 slot.
FB: T83.8, 81.9-83.2 mph. Flashes arm -side run with downward tilt. Commanded the pitch to all quadrants of the zone.  T1826, 1756 average rpm.
CB: 64.9-66.8 mph. Gradual 11/5 break, feel for locating down in the zone.  T1878, 1816 average rpm.
CH: 72.8-74.6 mph. Flashed arm-side run, maintains arm speed. T1723, 1645 average rpm.

Bradley Irish, St. Pauls Episcopal  (AL), 2025
Positional Profile: RHP/SS
Body: 5-9, 130-pounds. Lean, projectable frame with room to develop physically.
Delivery: Up-tempo, controlled delivery. Athletic balance point.
Arm Action: RH. Compact, quick arm speed into a high 3/4 delivery.
FB: T83, 81.4-82.8 mph. Creates nice downward plane with natural sink and action to the arm side. Located down in the zone.  T2259, 2156 average rpm.
CB: 69.1-69.2 mph. 11/5 action, commanded the pitch well to the gloveside.  T2008, 1982 average rpm.
CH: 69.9-72.4 mph. Quality pitch that he shows plenty of confidence in. Nice deception and late fade.  T1831, 1712 average rpm.

Mattox Johnson, Gulf Shores (AL), 2022
Positional Profile: LHP/1B
Body: 6-0, 170-pounds. Evenly distributed strength throughout.
Delivery: Smooth tall-and-fall delivery, works in line with home, lands square with an athletic finish
Arm Action: LH. Long, loose arm action, high 3/4 slot
FB: T78.4, 76.8-78.4 mph. Easy, clean, arm-side run with some sink. T2013, 1872 average rpm.
CB: 60.5-63.7 mph. Sharp breaking, 1/7 movement buried down in the zone.  T1764, 1727 average rpm.
CH: 69.8-71.0 mph. Flashed sink at times with nice deception out of the hand.  T1782, 1720 average rpm.

Carson Joyner, Bayside Academy (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: 3B/RHP Legit two- way potential.
Body: 5-11, 195-pounds. Athletic, sturdy frame.
Delivery: Athletic posture at balance point, simple and controlled delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action, high 3/4 slot.
FB: T89.8, 85.5-88.7 mph. Jumps out of the hand, played mostly straight and filled the zone up.  T2268, 2186 average rpm.
CB: 72.6-74.2 mph. 11/5 shape with depth and natural downer action, feel to spin and for the zone. T2435, 2348 average rpm.
CH: 72.7-77.5 mph. Maintains fastball arm speed and intent, spotted down in the zone with sink.  T1884, 1726 average rpm.

Ethan Kick, Spanish Fort  (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: RHP/SS Impressive 2024 prospect, loved the actions with the glove.
Body: 6-2, 175-pounds. Well proportioned, athletic frame.
Delivery: Controlled, athletic delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Short arm action from a high 3/4 slot. Hides the ball well from hitters.
FB: T80.1, 78.9-80.0 mph. Sneaky quick pitch with solid downhill action. Showed sink at times.  T2186, 2152 average rpm.
CB:  mph. Gradual 11/5 break. T2497, 2497 average rpm.
SL: 72.0-74.1 mph. Was similar to the curveball in terms of depth, minimal late movement. T2631, 2552 average rpm.

Will Krehely, Pensacola Catholic (FL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Quality uncommitted 2023 arm from Florida that jumped out at the event.
Body: 6-0, 165-pounds. Athletic, strong frame.
Delivery: A bit unorthodox delivery from a slightly up-tempo delivery. Hides the ball from hitters very well.
Arm Action: RH. Very low 3/4 (almost true sidearm) arm slot with a quick arm.
FB: T86.2, 85.1-86.1 mph. Lively out of the hand with tons of moment to the arm side. The pitch will definitely miss a ton of barrels.  T2230, 2056 average rpm.
CB:  mph.  T,  average rpm.
SL: 68.7-70.9 mph. Power frisbee-type action that he commanded to both sides. Tough to pick up the spin.  T2327, 2294 average rpm.
CH: 76.4-77.3 mph. Same slot as fastball with a ton of sink into RH hitters.  T1408, 1390 average rpm.

Bryce Masters, Prattville Christian (AL), 2025
Positional Profile: 1B/LHP High ceiling 2025 uncommitted southpaw.
Body: 6-3, 203-pounds. Strong, broad-shouldered build.
Delivery: Drop/drive type delivery, works in line to target, square finish.
Arm Action: LH. Quick arm from an elevated high 3/4 slot.
FB: T81.5, 79.5-81.4 mph. Creates a steep downhill plane with some arm side action.  T2210, 2143 average rpm.

Body: 6-4, 210-pounds. Long, lengthy frame that has added strength to the frame.
Delivery: Worked exclusively from the stretch. Gets the ball out of the glove quickly with an up-tempo pace to the plate.
Arm Action: RH. Quick, long arm action into a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T85.9, 84.1-85.5 mph. Pounded the lower half of the zone with natural sink on the pitch.  T2139, 1869 average rpm.

Arm Action: RH. Compact arm circle finishes from an over-the-top slot.
FB: T81.7, 80.0-81.7 mph. Created downward tilt on the pitch while locating it well to the arm side with occasional run.  T2088, 1977 average rpm.
CB: 69.1-70.3 mph. Late breaker, showing solid depth with 12/6 shape.  T2328, 2203 average rpm.

Delivery: Minimal body movement from a tight tall/fall delivery.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm circle with a very quick arm from a high 3/4 slot.
FB: T86.6, 84.7-86.1 mph. Created nice downward tilt and pounded the lower half of the zone with sink.  T2376, 2269 average rpm.

Body: 6-3, 186-pounds. Proportional athletic frame, long limbs.
Delivery: Up-tempo with a natural, athletic balance point. Works across the body a bit.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm action into an over-the-top arm slot.
FB: T79.2, 76.9-79.0 mph. Creates downward tilt to the lower half of the zone with natural cutting action.  T2032, 1953 average rpm.

Arm Action: LH. Long, loose arm action into a 3/4 slot.
FB: T74.6, 73.2-74.3 mph. Flashed slight arm-side run with some sink.  T2064, 1957 average rpm.

Thrasher Steed, Gulf Shores (AL), 2022 Chipola commit.
Positional Profile: RHP/1B 2022 RHP that impresses at each look.
Body: 6-4, 210-pounds. Solid lower half with broad shoulders.
Delivery: Quick tempo, high leg kick creates momentum, front hip leads downhill, long stride downhill, maintains direction.
Arm Action: RH. Long arm circle that finishes out of a very high 3/4 slot.
FB: T90.7, 88.4-90.0 mph. Jumps out of the hand, showed command to all quadrants with arm side action.  T2026, 1958 average rpm.
CB: 77.1-78.4 mph. Showed late, downer action with 11/5 shape. Definite power breaking ball.  T2218, 2094 average rpm.
CH: 82.3-83.5 mph. Thrown with fastball intent, occasionally played with late arm-side action. T1386, 1334 average rpm.

Jonathan Stevens, Briarwood Christian (AL), 2023
Positional Profile: RHP/SS One of (if not the top) uncommitted arms in the AL 2023 class, showing an increase in velocity.
Body: 6-1, 190-pounds. Athletic frame, evenly distributed strength throughout.
Delivery: Worked exclusively from the stretch. low effort with strong lower half.
Arm Action: SH. Long arm path on the backside, high 3/4 slot, electric arm speed.
FB: T92.1, 90.2-91.8 mph. Lively out of the hand and can be effective up in the zone. Pitch seemed to explode late.  T2312, 2197 average rpm.
CB: 75.7-75.8 mph. Spins off of a 12/6 plane, did flash late downer action. A definite swing and miss pitch.  T2502, 2472 average rpm.
SL: 74.2-78.1 mph. Power breaking ball with fastball conviction, tighter shape, stayed around the zone.  T2628, 2497 average rpm.
