DAPHNE, AL - The South Alabama Games & Mobile Rising Stars ID were held on Tuesday, July 18th at Bayside Academy Sports Complex in Daphne, AL. These events consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2024-2028 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers in the South Alabama Games were able to throw in simulated outings facing hitters during gameplay and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Continuing off our post-event coverage for the event, we take a look at all of the catchers that were at the event. Continue to check back over the next few days as we will also take a look at all outfielders, infielders and pitchers from the event.

Sims Brown, St Paul's Episcopal  (AL), 2028
Positional Profile: C/RHP
Body: 5-5, 115-pounds. Lean, smaller frame. Proportional.
Hit: SH. Narrow stance. Hands set high.  Inside-out approach, mainly backside.  50.4 mph bat speed with 9 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 74 max exit velocity, averaged 65.3 mph. 184’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 67.00 mph. Short arm action, high 3/4 slot.
Defense: 2.08-2.36 pop times. Fluid hips, natural actions with the mitt on balls in the dirt.
Run: 8.41 runner in the 60.

Jeremy Menhennett, St. Luke's Episcopal  (AL), 2026
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-10, 180-pounds. Physical lower half, athletic build.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, open stance.  Solid bat speed. Tilted bat path with juice to the backside gap.  63.7 mph bat speed with 16 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 74.7 mph. 196’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 73.00 mph. Over-the-top slot, long arm slot.
Defense: 2.08-2.18 pop times. Athletic actions behind the dish, natural receiver.
Run: 7.52 runner in the 60.

Frank Mercante, Bayshore Christian  (AL), 2027
Positional Profile: C/OF
Body: 5-6, 135-pounds. Athletic, proportional frame.
Hit: RHH. Narrow, slightly open stance. Leg kick trigger.  Showed the ability to hit all fields from a short, compact approach.  53.6 mph bat speed with 16 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 60.7 mph. 184’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 64.00 mph. Short arm slot, high 3/4.
Defense: 2.29-2.50 pop times. Quick transfer with accurate throws to the bag. Solid defensive actions.
Run: 7.79 runner in the 60.

Owen Newsome, Enterprise (AL), 2024
Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 5-11, 185-pounds. Physical lower half, strength throughout.
Hit: RHH. Slightly open, narrow stance. Solid extension through contact with power to both gaps. Creates backspin and carry.  68.3 mph bat speed with 7 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 92 max exit velocity, averaged 77.5 mph. 298’ max distance.
Arm: RH. C - 75.00 mph. Short arm slot, high 3/4 with carry.
Defense: 2.07-2.12 pop times. Defends at a high level, shows some looseness in the hips.
Run: 7.69 runner in the 60.

Declan Reidy, Daphne  (AL), 2028 
Positional Profile: C/1B 
Body: 5-7, 130-pounds. Athletic build with room for development. 
Hit: RHH. Athletic, slightly open with the feet.  Mostly pull side approach. Slight tilt in the bat path.  53.5 mph bat speed with 8 G’s of rotational acceleration.
Power: 66 max exit velocity, averaged 59.3 mph. 201’ max distance. 
Arm: RH. C - 61.00 mph. Over-the-top slot. 
Defense: 2.45-2.70 pop times. receives pitches very well, solid fundamentals for a young player. 
Run: 8.74 runner in the 60.
