Sept. 8 All State Games: Quick Hits

Alabama All State Game Quick Hits: 

It was a steamy day at the University of Alabama on Sunday, September 8 for the All State Games as each position player went through a pro style workout in the morning and played in one of the two games in the afternoon. Over the next few days we will be releasing a ton of content from the event, including an individual scout blog for each player in attendance. The scout blogs will be released by position. Today, let’s take a quick look and just a few of the standouts from the event. 

Griff Minor (2021, OF/LHP, Helena) Love how Minor plays the game. Showed plus effort all day and just competes. Had a spectacular diving play in CF and 2 hits in the game as well. Has some explosiveness in the swing. 

Jacob Little (2021, SS/RHP, Southside) Another guy that really competes. The skills on the dirt are very solid and he showed some power off of the barrel and a patient approach at the plate. Had 2 good at bats that ended in hits during the game. 

Harrison Stout (2020, SS/OF, Tuscaloosa County) Athletic skill set allows him to double as both an infielder and outfielder. He was 2-2 with a 1B, 3B and BB during game play. Solid player in all aspects with plenty of arm strength, plus runner and a solid approach at the plate. 

Steven Cash (2022, LHP/OF, Bibb County) The southpaw continues to impress each time we see him. Can really command 3 pitches from a nice, easy delivery. The breaking ball showed nice depth and the fastball really showed arm side run. Clean 2 innings of work. 

Vinnie Bosio (2021, OF/C St. Paul’s Episcopal) Showed nice athleticism and speed at the event with 86 mph OF velo during the defensive workout. Had 3 quality at bats during the game with loud contact off the barrel in each plate appearance. Defends at a high level in the OF. 

Tanner Jones (2021, RHP/1B, Thorsby) Impressive ‘21 grad that showed a very nice approach at the plate and was 89 mph exit velo off of the tee. The footwork around the bag at 1B was solid and he showed 84 mph across the diamond. Even more impressive on the mound with a fastball up to 86 mph from a high ¾ slot and slider type action on the breaking ball. 

Walker Stallworth (2021, RHP/1B, Charles Henderson) As good as we have seen around the bag at 1B, especially digging balls out of the dirt on throws to the bag, making it look rather easy. Showed easy defensive actions at the bag. On the mound, the fastball was up to 85 mph from a clean delivery. 

Owen Roberson (2021, C, Wilson) Young catcher that has added some size and strength. Had a solid behind the plate and was 1.9- 2.0 pop to the 2B bag and did a nice handling the pitchers. Had a 2B and 1B in the game. 

Reed Hill (2022, C/RHP, Russellville) The ‘22 grad followed up a strong performance at the Black Sox Scout Day by getting 3 hits in 3 at bats during Game 1 of the day, including a 2B. 

Davis Gillespie (2022, SS/RHP, Oak Mountain) Another ‘22 grad that has grown and gotten stronger since we last saw him. Worked an easy inning showing a fastball up to 83 mph and nice slider type action on the breaking ball. Attacked the zone. 

Ethan Roberts (2022, RHP/OF, Muscle Shoals) Another young arm that worked 2 clean innings on the day, showing a fastball up to 84 mph that seemed to “sneak” up on hitters with plenty of arm side action. Showed the ability to command both sides of the plate with the fastball and throw the breaking ball for strikes. 

Alex Wade (2022, OF/RHP, Madison Academy) Wade showed an 88 mph velocity from the OF and the ball really carried out of the hand. Tall, lanky build with plenty of room to fill out physically. Had 2 hits in the game, including a 3B that was absolutely hammered to the LCF gap. 

Grant Jay (2022, C/1B, Mobile Christian) Physical specimen that does a nice job using his strength in his game. Quiet receiver behind the plate with a quick transfer on throws to the 2B bag. Was also 91 mph exit velocity off the tee which carried over to the game as he had 2 loud base hits, including a 3B with 2 RBI’s. 

Trent Hodgdon (2021, RHP/3B, Smiths Station) The guy can pitch. The fastball was consistent 88 mph in his first inning of work and was 84-88 in his second inning. Pretty high spin rate on the pitch anywhere from high 2200’s- low 2300’s. The breaking ball is a swing and miss pitch at 71-72 mph. 

Cade Horton (2021, 3B/1B, Bibb County) Speaking of loud barrels, this guy made have had the loudest one on the day. He is able to play either corner infield position but the guy has major juice, especially to the pull side. Was 94 mph exit velocity off of the tee. Had a loud 2B in the game and another loud out on an F7. Big time hitter in the ‘21 class.
