PBRT Alabama Select: Day 3 Scout Blog

The PBRT Alabama Select continued yesterday in Albertville, AL at the beautiful & brand-new Sand Mountain Sports Complex, which features four artificial-turf fields. Although the forecast called for some rain throughout the day, the third day of games across four age divisions (14U, 15U, 16U, 17U) was only interrupted once due to lightning, but quickly was resumed thanks to the turf fields. Our scouts were on hand for the games played, and there were plenty of standout performances throughout the day, both at the plate and on the mound. Teams and players were well-represented throughout the southeast part of the country, making for a perfect day of baseball.

Before we get cranked up with Day 4 of the tournament, our scouts went back to take a look and highlight some of the top performers on Day 3...

 

Chris Billingsley, Jr., RHP, Bibb County (AL), 2023
Slim 6-2, 170-pounds, loose and free arm action, used as a back-end arm during a bracket play game for P&P Baseball. Lived primarily off of the fastball, which sat 83-84 mph, and reached 86 mph with downhill life due to an over-the-top slot. Featured a slower, more gradual-breaking curveball at 67 mph with 2300 rpm’s. Entered the game in the 5th inning with two outs, and would go on to toss 2 ⅓ IP of scoreless relief to earn the save. Really efficient with 32 pitches, only walked one and struck out three.


Ty Sanderson, C/SS, Grissom (AL), 2023
6-0, 175-pound frame, some strength throughout, smooth left-handed stroke with looseness in the hands. Heavy barrel with ability to spray to all fields. No issue going the other way, as he lined a single into the back side gap in one of his at-bats on Saturday. Versatile skill set defensively, caught all year for the 7A Tigers handling some big velocity, but also can move to any infield position with sure hands and smooth defensive actions. 2.05 pop times.


Will Adams, 1B/LHP, Hoover (AL), 2026
5-11, 148-pound frame, some premium athleticism for his age, long limbed, moves well around the field. Took some good swings from the left side, showing a fluid path and a repeatable swing, but didn’t have much to show for today after a few multi-hit games throughout the tournament playing up an age division. Jumped on the mound in a tight situation and was a strike thrower. Fastball reached 81 mph multiple times with slower, effective off speed offerings. Up-tempo, athletic delivery. Huge upside as a two-way player.

Brayden Pooler, 1B, Beauregard (AL), 2024
6-1, 190-pound frame with some physicality, left-handed hitter who has had a huge weekend. Blasted numerous home runs on Friday, and drove in six runs in the process. Continued to swing a hot bat into Day 3, as he recorded a single in their second bracket play game, and also barreled one to the back side gap but was tracked down for a L7. Keeps the barrel in the zone, has some loft to his swing. Power potential from the left side.


Brady Gardner, LHP/OF, Westview (TN), 2024
6-1, 150-pound, long and lean southpaw made a relief appearance for West Tennessee Express 15U. Commanding both sides of the plate in his three innings of work, running the fastball up to 79 mph. During his outing, he allowed only one hit, one run, and recorded two strikeouts. Gardner works with an interesting low ¾ arm slot and makes it tough for left-handed hitters. Also tacked on a 1-for-3 performance at the plate including a walk.


Keaton Lance, UTL, Hartselle (AL), 2025
Compact build at 5-7, 140-pounds, left-handed hitter who attacked the baseball to all parts of the field today in the win for Black Sox Baseball Silver 14U. Lance displays an advanced approach, a smooth stroke from the left side, and allows the hands to work. Concluded with a 2-for-4 day at the plate and added two RBI’s, as well.


Jack McBrayer, UTL, East Hamilton (TN), 2024
Athletic, 5-10, 160-pounds, loose with the hands, short, compact swing with a direct path to the baseball. Sprayed the ball to all fields during the Rawlings Tigers 15U 10-0 win early this morning. McBrayer contributed to his club by recording two hits and driving in five RBI’s. Laced an RBI single into center field during the middle innings to extend the Tigers lead.


Jackson Crow, RHP, Oxford (AL), 2023
6-0, 190-pounds, has added some noticeable strength to his frame, more physical lower-half and has resulted in a big velocity jump since the last look. Struggled to find the zone throughout his outing, but showcased a lively, high-spin fastball that opened up sitting 84-87 mph (2400 rpm), and touched 88 mph in the 1st. Flipped in a few quality breaking balls at 74-75 mph with tight, hard bite and spin up into the 2500’s. Fastball was really effective when up in the zone.
