The PBR at The Performance Lab event was held this Tuesday, July 6th in Mobile, AL. This event players ranging from the classes of 2022-2025. These players went through an extended pro-style workout, took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion sensors. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

CLASS OF 2022

+ OF Patch Lyman (Mountain Brook, 2022) is coming off a stellar spring season offensively for the 7A Spartans as one of their leading hitters out of the three-hole. The uncommitted rising senior continued to elevate his game with his showing at multiple PBR events this summer, including this showcase on Tuesday. Long 6-3, 200-pounds with strength throughout which correlates well to the offensive profile as a left-handed hitter. Solid bat-to-ball skills that has shown to hit for average in the past, and could hit for power in the future. Keeps the weight back well before shifting through the zone and impacting the baseball to the gaps. Posted the top EV at the event at 97 mph.

+ C Caleb Campbell (Brooks, 2022) is another rising sophomore who has continued to elevate his status as a prospect with a strong start to the summer. 5-9, 180-pound frame with compact strength throughout and uses all parts to create loud contact offensively. Stays balanced at the plate & explodes through the zone with strong, quick hands. Took some aggressive hacks and looks to hit for extra bases while working gap-to-gap. Posted consistent low-90 mph EV's with a top at 94 mph during his round of BP. Slightly above average defender behind the plate that could also play a corner spot on the infield.

CLASS OF 2023

+ RHP Charlie Berryman (Mountain Brook, 2023) has quickly made a name for himself after the first half of the summer after getting a look at an outing at LakePoint a few weeks ago. High-waisted 5-11, 175-pounds, uses an aggressive, quick arm to attack all parts of the zone with the fastball that worked consistently at 87-89 mph with low-spin and sinking action. Slider is still developing with short, minimal action to it, but also flashed a quality changeup in this look. Both were landed for strikes consistently. One of the better arms of the showcase who has upside if he continues to progress as a prospect.

+ C Jack Stowers (St. Paul's Episcopal, 2023) enjoyed his first PBR showcase on Tuesday with a solid all-around showing in Mobile. Physical, well-built 6-2, 190-pound frame who looks the part as a catcher. Wide setup on pre-pitch before shifting the hands through the zone while staying inside the baseball. Sprayed the ball to all fields with no issue going the other way. Regarded as one of the top defensive backstops in the rising junior class in the Alabama. Good flexibility behind the plate allows him to block with ease, receives well with strong wrists and hands. Above average arm strength with some carry and accuracy on throws to 2nd base.

+ OF Landon Tyler (Ariton, 2023) also enjoyed his first PBR showcase with some impressive numbers to build on over the next couple of years. Athletic 6-3, 175-pounds who did everything at a high level throughout the pro-style workout. Ran a 4.22 H to 1st time and also showed some arm strength from the outfield at 86 mph, which was one of the top numbers at the event. Uses his athleticism well offensively with solid movement patterns and actions. Consistently on the barrel throughout his round with some juice to the pull side. Top EV at 94 mph.

CLASS OF 2024

+ RHP Eli Driskell (Baker, 2024) kicked things off as one of the first few pitchers to throw during the event, and put up some big numbers in the process. 5-11, 175-pound body that showcased a live arm on the mound for his age. Worked primarily 85-86 mph with plenty of life through the zone (2300 rpm), and even ran it up to 87 mph on one of his final pitches of the outing. Featured a slider in the low-70's and a slower breaking ball in the upper-60's, both with spin in the 2300 rpm's. Also flashed a changeup in the mid-70's with fading action. Big statement on the mound for the rising sophomore.

+ 3B Alex Bennett (Mobile Christian, 2024) put on an impressive display of present power from both sides of the plate during his round of BP. 5-11, 180-pound frame with plenty of upside down the road as he continues to fill out and refine as a prospect. A switch-hitter offensively, but looked a bit more comfortable from the left side in this look. Generates loft in the swing and looks to lift the ball into the gaps. Uses a quick bat to generate hard contact with a max bat speed at 77.00 mph, per Blast Motion sensors. Works up through the zone with the swing path, and has more power coming down the road.

+ SS Ethan Kick (Spanish Fort, 2024) was yet another pleasant surprise at this event in his first showing at a PBR event. Stands a long & projectable 6-2, 170-pounds with long limbs and plenty more strength to come as he adds strength and fills out. Used a simple, repeatable stroke from the right side and showed a knack for finding the barrel. Stays short throughout and uses a direct path to contact. Feet work well on the infield with solid lateral movement. Accurate throws across the infield to 1st base. Athleticism translated to the mound well, running the fastball up to 79 mph with sharp action on the breaking ball with spin up to 2500 rpm's.

+ RHP Carson Joyner (Bayside Academy, 2024) put his two-way ability on display on Tuesday with good showings in all facets of his game. Stands a strong 5-11, 190-pounds with defined strength. Showed some feel to hit for line drives through the infield during his round of BP, and posted a top EV at 91 mph in the process. Showed some solid hands defensively and a live arm across the infield for his age. Proceeded to hop on the bump, where he made his biggest mark of the day. Worked with an over-the-top slot and ran his fastball up the 86 mph while working the mid-80's. Breaking ball had 11-5 shape in the upper-60's with 2300 rpm's. Also flashed a sinking changeup as a third offering.

+ RHP Alex Sherman (UMS-Wright, 2024) was the last pitcher of the day to throw and capped off the event with a solid outing on the mound. Durable, long 6-2, 185-pound frame with a good presence on the mound. Uses a quick rocker step in his windup, but quickly gets back square and works down the slope and landed all pitches for strikes. Fastball lived consistently at 84-85 mph with some arm-side run. Breaking ball at 72-73 mph flashed some depth to it, and posted spin up to 2200 rpm's. Fading changeup at 75-76 mph worked well off the same plane as the fastball as a third offering. Live arm with much more to come down the road.

CLASS OF 2025

+ OF Damien Gatson (Mobile Christian, 2025) arguably had the biggest day out of any player in any class in his first showing at a PBR showcase. A natural athlete at 5-11, 175-pounds with advanced actions for a player his age. Smooth, easy stroke from the left side with feel for the barrel during his round of BP. Showed the ability to adjust plane throughout the swing, and posted a top EV at 91 mph. Looked comfortable during the defensive portion with lateral range and a clean transfer. Above average arm strength on throws to the plate at 84 mph with accuracy. Also had the best H to 1st time at 4.00. With his elite athleticism and polished approach to the game, Gatson has immense upside in the rising freshman class.

+ 1B Cole Dean (Bayshore Christian, 2025) was a big performer throughout the spring for the Class 1A State Champion Bayshore Christian Eagles, where he was heavily relied on as an eighth-grader hitting in the three-hole. Continues to cement himself as one of the top young hitters in the class with a good showing on Tuesday. Projectable 5-9, 170-pounds with some strength, but still a ton of maturity to take place. Incorporates the lower-half well throughout the swing and didn't get cheated during his round. Sent plenty of hard-hit line drives back up the middle, working up to 88 mph as a top EV. Tons of potential and projects to be a middle-of-the-order hitter down the road.

+ OF Santae McWilliams, Jr. (Saraland, 2025) is highly-known for being one of the more elite athletes in the rising freshman class, and he continues to show why he deserves that recognition with each look. Athletic 5-7, 160-pound frame that has tons of fast-twitch motions that is used in all facets of his game. Ran a 6.85 60 YD last summer, but due to rain, he ran a 4.18 H to 1st at this event which proved to be one of the top times of the event. Fires quick hips and an accurate barrel through the zone, showing comfortability hitting for line drives to use his skill set well. Will only continue to get better with added size and refinement in the future.
