NF Black Sox/Troy Post 70 Standouts
August 18, 2020
North Florida Black Sox and Troy Post 70 held a joint showcase at Pike Liberal Arts School with players from all over the Panhandle and Southern Alabama and PBR Florida was fortunate enough to be able to cover the event. Let’s take a look at some of the top players in attendance.
Standouts
Cavanaugh is athletic and loose. High waisted with long limbs and wide shoulders. He utilizes the body to create a ton of torque and tilt with an unorthodox arm action that’s quick out front, making it tough for hitters to pick up. Manipulated the baseball and each pitch had movement as the fastball ran in with hard 2-seam action at 84-85 mph. He countered it with an upper 70s frisbee type slider that ran across the plate and rounded out the repertoire pulling the string on a 77 mph change-up.
Christian turned heads with his loose, whipped arm action that was lightning quick. Long, lanky build with above average athleticism. He hopped on the mound and popped the FB at 86-88 mph with ride through the zone. The off-speed has potential with sharp late break at 74-76 mph, but needs to be a bit more consistent. He rounded out the arsenal with a heavy 73-75 mph CH.
Big, tall build with a mature frame and raw power. One of the top hitters in attendance, Dyer displayed a smooth stroke from the left side with balance and timing in the load. The back hip fired and the hands flowed through allowing the barrel to be in the zone as long as possible. Smoked line drives to each gap and showed the pop to the pull side as he put a couple of balls in the trees behind the RF wall.
