Mizuno Pitcher & Player of the Week: Week 8
April 18, 2022
Each week during the high school season we have been announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Thanks to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season.
Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see this past week.
Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.
New this year will be our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Tuesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week. Look for that tomorrow.
With the state playoffs right around the corner, today's Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week will be the last ones announced for the 2022 season.
Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 8 (April 11-16):

Stats from week 8
The junior RHP was in complete control in the Patriots Game 1 win on Friday versus Florence. Mitchell, a 6'7 200 pound Alabama commit, turned in a complete game masterpiece as he did not allow an earned run in the 2-1 victory. He only allowed two hits and did not walk a batter over those seven innings. Mitchell struck out 15 hitters as the 7A Top 5 Patriots pushed their record to 29-8 and await a big area series this week versus rival James Clemens.

Burgreen, a Jacksonville State signee, continues to pace the Madison Academy offense hitting out of the leadoff spot. The switch-hitting shortstop helped the Mustangs (22-13) wrap up an undefeated area schedule as he hit .556 (5-9) this past week. Of those five hits, three left the yard as he also drove in eight runs. "Bump" also scored five runs and had two stolen bases for the Top 5 (5A) Mustangs as they now look ahead to the state playoffs.
