Mizuno Pitcher & Player of the Week: Week 2

PBR Alabama Staff

Each week during the high school season, we will be announcing the Mizuno Pitcher and Player of the Week for that particular week. Numerous players across the state continue to put up impressive numbers both as position players and pitchers on the mound. This year we will be selecting one Pitcher of the Week and one Player of the Week based on nominations from high school coaches across the state. Thanks to Mizuno for sponsoring both awards this season.

Check out our scout blog HERE for games our staff was able to get out and see this past week.

Thanks to the many high school coaches that sent in nominations this week.

New this year will be our Alabama Diamond Notes that we will release each Tuesday. Our Diamond Notes will highlight other players nominated by high school coaches that are deserving of recognition that were not named Mizuno Pitcher or Player of the Week. Look for that tomorrow.

Let's take a look at the Mizuno Player and Pitcher of the Week for Week 2 (February 28- March 5):

MIZUNO PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Stats from week 2

The uncommitted C/1B had an unforgettable week as he helped the Fairhope Pirates to a 4-1 week. Brock collected seven hits in eight at-bats (.875 BA) that included a double and two home runs. He walked ten times, was hit-by-pitch two more times and drove in five runs for the week. He also scored nine runs while swiping four bases. Defensively, he was just as solid as he threw out all five would-be base stealers from behind the plate. If these numbers aren't enough, the most impressive stat line for Brock is that he reached base in 17 consecutive plate appearances during the week.

MIZUNO PITCHER OF THE WEEK

Stats from week 2

Anderson got two starts on the week and both resulted in complete game wins for the 1A No. 2 Lions (7-0). Against West Limestone, the junior southpaw went seven innings and allowed two hits and walked one hitter. He had 12 strikeouts in the outing. On Friday, Anderson got his second start of the week versus Priceville and was even better than his previous outing as he twirled a complete game no-hitter, striking out 16 and walking three hitters. For the week, Anderson was 2-0 on the mound with 14 innings pitched while only giving up 2 hits. He walked only four hitters while striking out a total of 28 hitters.
