Birmingham Open: Quick Hits
June 16, 2022
BIRMINGHAM, AL - The Birmingham Open was held on Wednesday, June 15th at Hoover High School in Hoover, AL. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2023 and 2026 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Wednesday.
Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.
3B/RHP Mason Blasche, Hoover (AL), 2024
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 170-pounds, some length to frame, plenty of strength to still potentially be added in the future, intriguing two-way prospect in the rising junior class. Started off his day with an impressive round of BP using all parts of the field and showing tons of power potential. Starts in a slightly open stance with balance, works uphill through the hitting zone with a strong barrel giving way to some pop in the right side of the box. Also hopped on the mound and made it look easy running the fastball up to 86 mph with solid secondary offerings.

Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 170-pounds, another quality right-handed middle infielder who showed well at yesterday’s event. The rising uncommitted senior has continued to make quality strides both physically and with his game after attending events over the past couple years. Robinson creates solid separation in his swing and gets on-plane early hitting from the right side, and worked gap-to-gap in his round with a confident approach. He’s also an above average runner with a solid glove up the middle, and recorded an 81 mph infield velocity on throws across the infield.
