All-State Open: Quick Hits

MILLBROOK, AL - The All-State Open was held on Tuesday, June 28th at Stanhope Elmore High School in Millbrook, AL. This event was an open event that consisted of prospects from the 2023 and 2026 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in simulated bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

 

OF Mason Steele, Headland (AL), 2023
Uncommitted. 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. One of the top uncommitted players in the Wiregrass area. Coming off a standout performance a few weeks ago playing in the PBRT Alabama Open with Post 70 Baseball, continues to elevate himself showing intriguing tools across the board. Long levers in the frame with flashes of pull side power with a chance for more. Some of the best bat speed from the event, ran a 6.81 60 YD, second-best from the event. Strong at contact hitting from the left side with a top EV at 97.4 mph, above average arm strength from the outfield at 85 mph.

RHP/OF Evan Duncan, Stanhope Elmore (AL), 2023
Uncommitted. 6-foot-6, 220-pounds. High upside two-way prospect with an imposing frame and plenty of potential both at the plate and on the mound. Jumped onto the scene this spring hitting .436 with 7 HRs and 32 RBIs and went 8-0 with two saves with accumulating 41 Ks and a 1.73 ERA. At yesterday's event, Duncan hopped on the mound and worked 84-86 mph with some sink when at the bottom of the zone and has been up to 89 mph in the spring. Slider paired well at 75 mph and showed a quality splitter at 77 mph with late downward action. Lined balls to pull side gap during BP with multiple low-90 EV's, 7.17 runner, 89 mph OF velo.

C Trent Weatherly, Headland (AL), 2023
Uncommitted. 5-foot-11, 170-pounds. One of the top performers from the event showing well both offensively and defensively during the workout. Showed some athletic ability running a 6.87 60 YD to start his day, and followed it up lining balls to the both parts of the field during his round of BP. Balanced setup with some rhythm, stays on plane with the barrel, above average bat speed from the right side. Equally adept defensively behind the plate, posting 2.02-2.13 pop times from the crouch with a 78 mph C velo. Another quality uncommitted rising senior in the Wiregrass area.

OF/3B Ian Cartwright, Alexandria (AL), 2024
Uncommitted. 6-foot-0, 170-pounds. Really impressed with the rising junior a few weeks ago playing in the PBRT Alabama Open with Excel Baseball and continued to show well in a showcase setting yesterday. Still some projection left in the frame with athleticism. Showed some pull side pop in his round of BP with a low-effort, easy swing from the right side looking to lift. Posted a top EV at 93.6 mph with a few home runs to left field and consistent loud contact in his round. Showed some arm strength from the outfield at 83 mph and ran a 6.98 60 YD.

RHP/SS Jack Bryson, Marbury (AL), 2023
Uncommitted. 5-foot-10, 155-pounds. Listed as a primary shortstop, the uncommitted rising senior showed some ability in both facets with some upside on the mound. Posted a solid workout running a 7.08 60 YD, showed arm strength across the infield at 87 mph and used a line drive approach during BP. Even more intriguing on the mound, Bryson worked consistently at 83-85 mph with significant arm-side run and an average of 2329 rpm. His breaking ball showed some bite at 74-75 mph and flashed a 75-76 mph changeup with fading action. Really quick arm.

SS Mason Piper, Prattville (AL), 2025
6-foot-1, 165-pounds. Long and lengthy frame with plenty of room to add strength in the future. Showed some quality skills across the board and will be one to follow in the rising sophomore class over the next few years. Started off his day by running a 7.11 60 YD and followed it up showing a clean left-handed stroke working to both parts of the field during his round of BP with some extension out front. Turns the barrel well with some top-hand strength. Quality hands up the middle defensively with some arm strength and accuracy across the infield at 83 mph.
