Alabama All PBR Team:

2019 was a stellar year in the state for high school baseball. Many players throughout the state put up gaudy numbers that were worthy of consideration for numerous awards  which made our job very difficult to select the Alabama All PBR Team.  This is a position specific team that we have spent weeks discussing and deliberating about. Without further adieu, here is your 2019 Alabama All PBR Team.

Catcher: Ethan Hearn (2019, C, Mobile Christian) The left hand hitting catcher entered the year with high expectations and did not disappoint. He helped lead the Leopards to the state semi finals in 4A while hitting .482 on the season. He had 40 hits in 83 at bats that included 11 2B’s, 2 3B’s and 11 HR’s. Opposing pitchers often chose to pitch around him which led to 31 walks on the year, while driving in 42 runs. Considered one of the best prep catching prospects in the country, Hearn signed to attend Mississippi State University but will not be going to Starkville in the fall. He was chosen in the 6^th round (Pick 192) of the recent MLB draft by the Chicago Cubs and has signed and already started his professional career.

1^st Baseman: Cam Hill (2020, 1B, LHP, Bob Jones) Hill had a phenomenal junior season helping lead Bob Jones to the state finals. Hitting out of the lead off spot, he amassed 16 2B’s, 1 3B and 9 HR’s. He hit .383 on the year with 40 RBI’s while stealing 9 bases. The Auburn University commit was also a force on the mound going 7-1 on the season with 55 K’s. He finished the year with a 2.95 ERA over 47 1/3 IP.

Infield: Gunnar Henderson (2019, SS, Morgan Academy) Much like Hearn, Henderson (an Auburn University signee) entered his senior season with lofty expectations but the Auburn signee met, or exceeded what was asked of him. His numbers were off the charts. He hit .559 on the year (57-102) with 17 2B’s, 9 3B’s and 11 HR’s. He also drove in 75 runs and stole 28 bases. Because of these numbers and his success, he was recently named the PBR Alabama Player of the Year. Henderson was recently drafted by the Baltimore Orioles with the first pick (42^nd overall) of the second round. He has not signed with Orioles as of now.

Infield: Caden Rose (2020, SS/2B, Bob Jones) Rose enjoyed a very successful junior campaign that saw him hit at a .444 clip. The University of Alabama commit had 60 hits in 135 at bats to go along with 21 stolen bases. He was an extra base hit machine as he ended up with 20 2B’s, 3 3B’s and 7 HR’s. Rose missed a little more than a month of the season with an injury but returned for the state championship series where he served as the Patriot’s DH.

Infield: Peyton Wilson (2019, SS/C, Hoover) Wilson makes the team as an infielder but is equally adept behind the plate as a catcher. For the season, the senior hit .369 (52-141) with 7 2B’s, 6 3B’s and 6 HR’s versus Hoover’s loaded schedule. The University of Alabama signee also stole 22 bases and was solid defensively all year long.

Outfield: Jordan Beck (2019, OF/RHP, Hazel Green) The senior University of Tennessee signee had a stellar year and doubled as an OF and RHP for the Trojans. No doubt his future is with the bat as he hit an even .500 on the year with 73 hits in 146 at bats. Beck had 16 2B’s, 3 3B’s and 13 HR’s. He also drove in 52 runs and was walked 19 times on the year. He was recently drafted in the 14^th round by the Boston Red Sox. He has not signed with the Red Sox as of now.

Outfield: Dylan Ray (2020, OF/RHP, Bob Jones) Ray followed up a strong sophomore campaign with another impressive season during his junior year. Ray enjoyed some success on the mound this year for the Patriots but he made this team as an OF with his exploits with the bat. For the season, he hit .403 (62-154) with 11 2B’s and 9 HR’s to go along with 64 RBI’s, all of this coming after surgery for a torn ACL during the football season. Ray is a University of Alabama commit.

Outfield: Colton Ledbetter (2020, OF, Spain Park) The junior outfielder from Spain Park was a catalyst for the Jaguars all season and his numbers back that up. The Samford University commit hit .338 for the season, going 40-103. This included 11 2B’s, 7 3B’s and 7 HR’s (25 of his 40 hits went for extra bases). He also drove in 33 runs and was 27-29 in the stolen base department for the season.

Pitcher: Chandler Best (2019, LHP/ 1B, McGill Toolen) Best was simply brilliant for the 7A state champions all season long. He led the Yellow Jackets with a 10-1 record on the mound over 82 1/3 IP. The University of Southern Mississippi signee racked up 139 K’s on the season and had a 1.01 ERA.

Pitcher: Pico Kohn (2021, LHP/OF, Chilton County) The sophomore exploded on the scene this year with mind boggling numbers. Kohn was 10-0 on the year, throwing 75 innings and amassing 125 K’s. He only allowed 3 runs over the course of the entire year and only one of those runs was earned. The Mississippi State University commit finished with a miniscule 0.093 ERA.

Pitcher: Justin Perreault (2019, RHP/2B, Homewood) Perrault was simply the bell cow for the Patriots this season as they reached the second round of the 6A state playoffs. The senior University of Alabama- Huntsville signee was 10-0 on the season (including 4 shutouts) with 1 save as well. In 66 innings of work he struck out 84 batters and finished with a 0.85 ERA.

Pitcher: Christian Herberholz (201, RHP/OF, Scottsboro) Herberholz was simply dominant this year for the Wildcats posting an 8-0 record as the he helped lead his team to the 5A state playoffs. He threw 41 innings on the year striking out 63 hitters and accumulating an impressive 0.68 ERA. The Tennessee Tech University signee only allowed 18 hits all year. For good measure, Herberholz hit .338 (27-80) as an outfielder with 3 HR and 20 RBI.

Utility: Matt Snell (2019, 3B/RHP, GW Long) Snell capped off a stellar career with one of the best statistical years in the state this year. He is truly a dual threat guy and showcased that in Montgomery as he helped GW Long with another state championship. For the year, Snell hit .536 (60-122) with 11 2B’s, 1 3B and 12 HR’s. He also had 63 RBI’s and stole 6 bases. He was equally impressive on the mound, finishing with a 12-1 record. He threw 70 innings, struck out 104 hitters and finished with a 1.00 ERA. Snell is a Troy University signee.

DH: Zane Faulk (2020, C/OF, Smiths Station) Faulk put up gaudy offensive numbers for the Panthers during his junior season. He was 43-87 (.494 BA) with 11 2B’s, 3 3B’s and 6 HR’s on the year and drove in 39 runs as well. Showing the ability to hit for power he was also tough to strikeout as he walked 19 times and only struck out 6 times on the year. Faulk is uncommitted.
