+ MONDAY, MARCH 27TH
+ RHP Brody McCain (Arab, 2023) got the start on Monday night for the Knights and was on a pitch count, but showed dominant stuff over his four-inning outing. Working from a clean operation and a high ¾ arm slot, the senior showed a longer arm path while doing a good job hiding the ball from opposing hitters. The Northwest-Shoals CC signee has always shown a well-shaped breaking ball with high spin (2800 avg. spin rate) and that pitch was on full display on Monday night as he was able to consistently mix the pitch in with the fastball. He was able to locate the pitch very well while inducing several swing-and-misses. McCain has seen a recent uptick in velocity and that was apparent in his start against 7A Enterprise as he was anywhere from 84-88 mph throughout his four innings of work and bumped 89 mph twice early in his outing. He was able to command the fastball down in the zone, to the glove side and was able to elevate the pitch when ahead in the count. McCain also hits out of the two-hole for the Knights and brings a lot of athleticism to the lineup. His quality two-pitch mix will make it tough for opposing hitters as the Knights look to make a run in Class 5A and they have to like their chances when handing McCain the ball. He finished going 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, and 8 Ks.
