Alabama High School Team Preview: Vincent Yellow Jackets

The 2022 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.

Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each AHSAA classification as well as a Power 25. Team Outlook
The Vincent Yellow Jackets head in to the spring of 2022 looking to make it back to the Class 2A State Playoffs after being eliminated in the 1st Round last spring. The Yellow Jackets finished as the runner-up in their area, but eventually fell to hands of Thorsby. They should be a very sound club in 2022 with some key pieces returning from that team last year.
Of the six returnees that VIncent has coming back in 2022, four of those players earned some accolades due to stellar seasons last spring. One of the top returners coming back will be SS/RHP Aiden Poe, who is a freshman that helped lead the way at the plate and on the mound for the Yellow Jackets last year. That experience and the success he had as an eighth-grader should benefit him greatly, as he'll continue to be looked upon this year. Poe works in the low-80's on the mound and has some pop from the right side offensively. He is currently ranked as a top-15 prospect in the inaugural freshman rankings. OF/2B Evan Davis is a senior for the Yellow Jackets who was named to the Class 2A All-State team last year as a junior. He'll provide a quality presence hitting in the heart of the order for Vincent.
A couple other players coming back with experience will be LHP Will Carden & OF Zac Carlisle, who both landed on the All County team after successful 2021 campaigns. With the addition of some other players stepping into bigger roles in 2022, the Yellow Jackets looked primed to make it back to the Class 2A State Playoffs this year.
