Alabama High School Team Preview: Springville Tigers
January 22, 2021
The 2021 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. That excitement may be at an all-time high entering this high school season as the 2020 high school baseball season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season during an offseason unlike any other and as always, there are some very talented players and teams across Alabama.
Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Montgomery at the AISA or AHSAA state championships but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Alabama. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing our scheduled podcasts and releasing our preseason Top 10 in each AHSAA classification.
*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Outlook:
The Tigers should will once again field a talented team that will depend on pitching, defense and a team full of competitors. One thing that will be a key to any success is the team's ability to manufacture and score some runs. One bat that the Tigers will depend on is senior catcher Parker Wells. The right handed hitter can control the opposing team's running game and is also super competitive at the plate and is a tough out. Senior 1B Jake Goolsby is a physical player (6'2 210 lbs.) who has a ton of pop at the plate and is a very disciplined hitter and very rarely chases anything out of the zone. Senior MIF Trey Windle also returns in 2021 and has super hands on the infield and has a very good understanding of the game. Another senior expected to play a key role this season is RHP/UTL Owen Prickett. He is a gritty competitor who has a bulldog mentality on the mound. He will also help in a number of positions when not on the mound. Two way junior talent Ethan Davis is a very versatile player that can play anywhere on the infield. Davis will also see time on the mound and does a superb job of commanding the strike zone with all pitches. Four sophomores to keep an eye on the season and in the years to come are:
2023 LHP Brady Gillespie- He is a lefthanded arm with a high ceiling featuring a good breaking ball. Gillespie does a nice job mixing pitches in any count.
2023 MIF Zach Brown- The athletic middle infielder shows advanced athleticism with solid hands on the infield while showing nice barrel control through the zone.
2023 MIF Hugh Windle- The younger Windle is simply a fierce competitor with plus defensive actions with the glove. He is also a very tough out at the plate.
2023 3B Payne Bryan- The sophomore makes difficult plays look routine at the hot corner while also providing a big bat in the lineup with plenty of juice to the pullside.
The Tigers have a solid mix of upperclassmen and underclassmen to help them battle in a very competitive 6A Area 13.
