Russell County wins another close game vs. Benjamin Russell in 6A Area 6. 

     Russell County and Benjamin Russell moved up the start time of their second game of their area series in hopes of beating the rain. It's a good thing as rain began to fall very soon after the Warriors held off the Wildcats by a score of 3-2 and take both games in the area series. after winning 3-1 on Tuesday.

    Runs were sparse as both teams got quality outings from their pitchers. For Benjamin Russell, sophomore Ryan Slaten went all 6 innings allowing 6 hits and did not walk a single hitter. He had 9 K's and allowed 3 runs but only 2 of those were earned. He was able to pitch out of some jams using his breaking ball in any count and did a nice job making big pitches when needed. He only threw 82 pitches on the day. Russell County countered with junior Logan Austin. The Auburn University commit went 6 1/3 innings striking out 10 hitters and scattering 5 hits. He walked 3 and gave up 2 runs (only 1 was earned). He was taken out with 1 out in the 7th inning due to the AHSAA maximum pitch mandate and was relieved by another junior, Austin Embrey. He faced 2 hitters while picking up the save, striking out 1 and getting a ground out to end the game. 

    Russell County got on the board first as junior speedster Zac Rice led off the bottom half of the first with a homerun to straight away centerfield. Embrey followed that up with a single and would come around to score on a 2 out RBI single by junior Zack Henderson. Russell County would add it's final run in the 2nd inning on a homerun by 8th grader Colton Wombles. Benjamin Russell answered back with 2 runs in the top of the 3rd when Brock Elliott had a run scoring single. Junior Joe Young would later come through with an RBI single driving in Huell Lumpkin, who reached on an error. This was all of the scoring on the day.
