Hoover Beats Ramsay

               Hoover honored their seniors on Saturday, rolling out 10 2020 grads in their starting lineup on their way to a 13-6 victory over visiting 5A Ramsay High School. LHP Cody Crain got the start on the mound for the Bucs, tossing 6 strong innings to pick up the win. The senior allowed 6 runs (2ER) on just 5 hits and struck out 7. Ramsay countered with 2020 RHP Jaih Andrews. Andrews gutted out 5 2/3 tough innings, as the Bucs finally started to get to him the 4^th time through the order.

Hoover started the scoring in the home half of the 2^nd, when Robby Ashford (2020 #2, Oregon) led off the inning with an IF single, stole second, then scored on a triple from SS Lawrence Hammonds (2020 #76, Snead St.) Hammond would then score on a single from 2020 Ethan Pomeroy.

Ramsay would answer with 1 run in the top of the 3^rd, then jumped in front in the top of the 4^th with 3 runs. After a walk, error, and IF single, 2021 Kamren Ivory ripped a single up the middle to score 2 and put the Rams up 4-2. The lead was short lived though, as the Bucs answered with a 6 spot in the bottom of the 4^th, capped off by a towering 2-run home run from 2020 C Davis Young.

Ramsay pulled back within 2 in the top of the 6^th thanks to a 2 RBI double from 2021 Christian Thomas. Hoover blew the game open in the bottom of the 6^th with 5 runs courtesy of doubles from Young, Ashford and Hammond, and a HR from Colson Lawrence (2020 #90, Wallace St).

2020 RHP Jonathon Skurtenis came on in the top of the 7^th and fired a perfect inning, picking up 2 strikeouts.
