2022 Most Viewed Profiles: No. 13 Riley Quick

PBR Alabama Staff

As we begin to close the book on 2022 and shift our focus to a brand-new year, we continue our tradition of highlighting the Top-25 Most Viewed Profiles for the calendar year. Using Google Analytics, our staff was able to compile a list of the Top-25 prospects whose PBR profile was viewed the most in 2022. Many of the players mentioned on this list produced at a high level at various PBR events over the course of the last 12 months.

Beginning on December 7th, we began counting down from No. 25 all the way to No. 1, which will be announced on December 31st. Continuing the countdown, RHP Riley Quick, a current freshman in the Alabama baseball program and 2022 Hewitt-Trussville graduate comes in at No. 13 on this list.

Scouting Report

4/13/21

RHP Riley Quick (2022) was as advertised in his start against No. 4 Vestavia Hills on Tuesday night in a huge area series. After recently making a jump up to No. 2 in the 2022 Alabama Rankings, Quick showed he easily deserved that type of recognition. Facing a talented, gritty lineup, the 6-6, 250 pound right-hander went the distance and never really seemed to break a sweat in the process. He opened up working 91-92 mph in the first three innings and was filling up the zone with excellent command. When facing right-handed hitters, Quick went to his 82-84 mph (2200 rpm) slider with late, minimal movement to it. The late, minimal break is used more to miss barrels, as it generated many weak roll over groundouts in the outing. Against left-handed hitters, Quick mixed in his 76-79 mph changeup to keep hitters off the fastball. Showed ability to go soft changeup away, then hammer the inner-half with the fastball on strikes. Command was superb, as he didn’t issue a walk in the contest and worked into a three ball count three times. Creates excellent extension with a long reach on the stride leg and uses quick arm speed to drive the fastball through the zone. Finished 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 0 BB & 9 K’s while earning the win.

4/02/21

RHP Riley Quick (2022) was called on during the 7th inning of a tight, one run game against the No. 1 team in Alabama to get the save, and he did just that. After previously being up to 90 mph in our last look a couple weeks ago, Quick only needed eight pitches to record the final two outs of the ballgame. Inheriting a runner on 1st (tying run) and 2nd (winning run) with one out in the bottom of the 7th, Quick poured in an 87-89 mph heater for strikes and flashed an 81-82 mph changeup with the same arm action. Punched out the leadoff hitter in the Tiger’s order and induced a groundout to end the game. The top arm in the 2022 Alabama Rankings.

3/18/21

RHP Riley Quick (2022) got the start on the mound for 7A No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville on Thursday night and went the distance while dominating & overpowering hitters with his fastball. Standing at an imposing 6-5, 255 pounds, Quick is regarded as the top uncommitted player in the 2022 AL Player Rankings, but is also a prized four-star offensive lineman recruit on the gridiron. On the bump last night, Quick opened up pounding the zone, especially the outer-half, with an 88-90 mph fastball that featured some occasional cut at times. Hitters simply had trouble catching up to the pitch the whole game, as Quick created excellent extension with his stride foot and released the ball further out in front than most pitchers, allowing the fastball to play up a bit more. He settled into 86-88 mph in the later innings while pitching with a big lead, but showed the ability to reach back for more and grab a 90 mph when he needed to with two strikes. The putaway pitch with two strikes was definitely his slider that ranged 79-82 mph (up to 2411 rpm). The pitch acted like a cutter in the first two innings, but changed shape later & showed true slider action with late, darting movement. Both pitches worked extremely well off of each other, with the slider maintaining the same plane as the fastball before dropping off at the end with tunneling action. Quick logged 5 IP (CG), 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB (2 HBP), & 12 K’s
