Alberta Scout Blog: June's Standouts

Our staff was all over the province this past month getting a look at players in-game. With the Baseball Alberta Elite League in full swing and one of the biggest tournaments in the province occuring this past weekend, the Webber Canada Day Classic, there was plenty of action to take in.
After being on hand for numerous games throughout the month of June, we breakdown standout players from this past month. The list is full of uncommitted players still looking for a home at the next level.

Ethan Pittman SS / 2B / Father Patrick Mercredi Highschool, AB / 2025Pittman was a mainstay all weekend at the top of the order for Fort McMurray at the Webber Canada Day Classic. His athleticism and twitch stood out on both sides of the ball. There’s present bat-to-ball and bat speed with the ability to drive the ball on a line into both gaps. He moves well laterally in the infield with advanced footwork and has the arm utility to make those difficult throws. The uncommitted shortstop stands at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds and will be a player to follow as he continues to trend upwards.

Lincoln Fugle OF / RHP / Father Patrick Mercredi, AB / 2025One of the main standouts at the Webber Canada Day Classic was Fort McMurray product Lincoln Fugle. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound two-way player had an impact on both sides of the ball. He threw 5 shutout innings with 6 strikeouts while also going 6 for 10 at the dish with 3 extra base hits. There’s athleticism and present strength in his current frame while also leaving plenty to dream on as he continues to add strength. He’s a 6.65 runner and has been up to 83 mph on the mound. The uncommitted 2025 is someone to keep an eye on as his season continues.

Braedyn Vogstad OF / RHP / Leduc Composite , AB / 2024Rankings StateRank: 41 / POS: 4
The athletic two-way player from the Parkland Twins was another standout at the Webber Canada Day Classic. It started on the mound with an impressive performance against ATHX. Although the fastball control was sporadic at times, he generated plenty of in-zone swing & miss with it and utilized a curveball with two-plane break to induce weak contact and chase out of the zone. The fastball was up to 88 mph, sitting mostly in the 85-86 mph range. At the dish, he made an impact in their quarterfinal matchup against Fort McMurray with multiple base hits. He tracks balls well in the outfield and utilizes his speed to get to them.

Jake Brooks SS / 2B / St.Joseph's High School, AB / 2025Rankings StateRank: 58 / POS: 13
Brooks has always been known as one of the top defensive players in his class. However, since the start of the Baseball Alberta Elite League season, he has been amongst the leaders in many of their offensive categories. The uncommitted shortstop has shown present bat-to-ball and improved strength, most noticeably to his pull-side. As a 7-flat runner, he moves well on the infield and will stick up the middle at the next level with a mid-80s arm across the diamond. At 6-foot-1, 175-pounds, the St. Joseph’s Academy product will continue to mature physically and add strength.

Jack Zarowny RHP / 2B / St Francis Xavier, AB / 2025Rankings StateRank: 21 / POS: 8
Zarowny had a performance to remember at the Langley Blaze invitational back in early June. He threw a complete game shutout against a very talented Langley Blaze team giving up just 4 hits and consistently filling up the zone. He mixed well all game, keeping hitters off-balance. The fastball was up to 86 mph and generated plenty of swing & miss on the curveball. At 6-foot-1, 205-pounds, the uncommitted 2025 will look to continue his success as the summer season continues.
