Uncommitted 2021 Spotlight: Nick Gravel
Background: Gravel, a 6-foot-1, 175-pound infielder out of Nova Scotia, is a member of Vauxhall. Left-handed hitter, linear hitting style, looks to use the middle of the field. Bat-to-ball oriented approach, stays inside-the-ball with a flat stroke. There’s some bat speed to work with, and he has the athleticism to continue to develop offensively. Glove-first player, with some of the best infield actions in the country. Feet move subtly, and under control towards the baseball, hands work cleanly, quick transfer, he accelerates through the ball and gets off accurate throws with a short release. Shows comfort moving both ways; he’ll make the routine plays in the infield and can profile at multiple positions.
Outlook: Gravel has the chance to be a solid contributor at the right school at the next level. He’s someone who can handle the bat and do the little things, move the ball around the field, not strikeout, and contribute in multiple spots as he has made strides at the plate over the past year, and can still get better in the box. He’s a reliable fielder who can play on both sides of second-base, with enough arm strength from the shortstop position considering his quick actions. He is the 7th ranked player in Alberta’s 2020 class. Should be a good get for a school.
