As we roll into the New Year, we kick off 2022 by highlighting some of the arms in Atlantic Canada’s 2023 class. 

Here, we take a look at four arms from the Maritimes that we feel are due for a breakout year.

Rory MacDonald RHP / 3B / Citadel, NS / 2023 A thick 6-foot-2 righty who throws from a 3/4 arm slot, he’s composed, fills up the zone, works ahead and attacks hitters. The fastball is deceptive with late life and has worked up to 83. He also commands a sweeping slider and a change-up with late arm side run.   23 Grad Rory Macdonald with the K to end the 1st inning. Luke Doucette LHP / 1B / Leo Hayes , NB / 2023 A lefty with a clean arm, repeatable delivery and command of three pitches all from the same arm slot. Doucette has the frame at 5-foot-10, and a 12-6 tilt to his curveball that he can bury or flip over to get ahead. Caleb Rice RHP / 2B / Leo Hayes, NB / 2023 At 5-foot-11, 140-pounds, Rice is another projectable arm who is likely to take off with added strength. His high leg kick helps to create deception and in the Fall the fastball consistently sat 80. He’s athletic, competes, and wants the ball. He already has good depth to his curveball, and continues to work on a change-up.   Now on the bump for NB 17U is Caleb Rice. Aiden Maas LHP / 1B / Charlottetown Rural, PE / 2023 A long lanky lefty who stands 6-foot-1, 150-pounds and can spin it, Maas is the type of frame you want to work with on your staff. The arm works well, and despite being a little raw he’s  got upside.
