Alberta Scout Blog - Future Watch
With recruiting Season in full swing, we take a look at two players from the 2022 and two players from the 2023 class looking to find a great fit to play their college baseball in this underclass watch. We saw all of these prospects in the late summer and into the fall and there is upside with the tools and have the ability to project in many different facets of the game.
Take a look at the videos and reports below....
Noah Scrimgeour RHP / OF / Western Canada High School, AB / 2023Report: Scrimgeour is an uncommitted RHP from Western Canada HS and plays his travel ball with Babe Ruth out of Calgary. Noah possesses the physical tools that show a very projectable athlete with a ton of potential. Standing 6-foot, 160-pounds, Scrimgeour is long and lean with plenty of potential to gain strength as he matures. He does show a very quick arm with efficient arm movements on the mound and a fastball that is already topping at 80 mph. Noah pairs this with two solid and steadily improving off speed offerings with his curveball and his Changeup. Noah will be an intriguing player to watch as he develops.

Caedyn Colford 3B / RHP / Frank Maddock, AB / 2022Report: Colford from Frank Maddox HS and the St. Albert Cardinals is a player who has some serious power potential. Standing at 6-foot-2, 225-pounds, Colford has a very strong physical make up that presents an ability to create some serious pop. At the Summer Showcase in Lethbridge, Colford showed an exit velocity touching 87 mph and a raw bat path with roof for a very prompt spike in numbers. At 3rd base Colford has very good, clean footwork and good baseball sense in tracking down ground balls. He pairs his cerebral tools with a very quick and loose arm across the diamond. Colford will certainly be an interesting guy to watch for in the future.

Ryley Doig 3B / SS / Olds, AB / 2023Report: Doig is a picture of raw potential. From Olds high school and the Olds Spitfires, Doig is a player that will improve exponentially as he polishes his craft on the baseball diamond. The tool that stands out most watching Doig play is his speed. At the Lethbridge Summer showcase, Doig ran a blistering 6.86 60 yard dash that will only improve as he matures physically. With this kind of stand-out speed Doig makes himself into a player that shows potential to be a threat and an asset at multiple positions as well as a nightmare for defenses on the basepaths. Doig is a player with a very exciting future.

Deri Steiert-Couture SS / C / Aberhart High School, AB / 2022Report: From Aberhart HS and the Calgary Bucks, Deri Steiert-Couture is a SS/C with baseball sense and intelligence far beyond his age. As a Catcher, Deri pairs a pop time as quick as 2.00 with very developed footwork and very refined receiving skills. His footwork at shortstop shows to be solid as well and is shown with very clean and fluid arm action, presenting him as a player with potential to make plays deep in the hole. At the plate, Steiert-Couture swing is a very clean, compact and repeatable. Keep an eye out for this 2022 grad as he progresses in the future.
