Derek is a four-year starter (freshman year in left field when older brother was shortstop and the last three years at shortstop) for Tinora. He has helped guide Tinora to the state final four three years in a row and is looking to guide them there for a fourth (they are currently ranked number three in Division IV).
Derek was selected for the Midwest Futures Game roster for Ohio.
Derek is a LHH shortstop (a move to second would probably make the most sense at the next level). He has a Division I swing no doubt about that. Freshman year hit .528 in 53 ABs, sophomore year hit .457 in 92 ABs, junior year .405 in 79 ABs (had a badly dislocated finger from basketball and had a case of mono) and is hitting .500 this season in 46 ABs (as of May 11th). In his career he is hitting .462 with a .568 OBP, 32 doubles, 12 triples 4 HRs, 101 RBIs, 106 runs scored, 59 BBs while only striking out 17 times in 270 ABs.
He was also first team all-state in football (defensive back, 7 INTs) and basketball (21.4 ppg, 10.2 rpg, 4 steals per game) this school year. Considered playing those sports in college but now has heart set on baseball at the next level.
