Spring 2016
A Duke recruit, the 6-foot-1, 200-pound catcher has two very desirable traits for the next level: Power to all fields and an above average throwing arm. His pop time is generally below 2.0, and he usually makes accurate throws with some zip on them. In two games scouted this season, he's thrown out more than half of attempted base-stealers and also shows a willingness to make the snap throw to first base. Has a good feel for when to try it. The right-handed batter has been as consistent as you would like offensively this season, but he can hit the ball a long way. When he's locked in, he'll also stay back on the ball and drive pitches into the right-center field gap.
Preseason All-Long Island (February 20, 2015)
Dutra stands 6-foot-0, 200-pounds with a solidly built frame. At the plate he shows next-level skills with the bat. Slightly open stance, hands back and high before powering through the zone. Exit velocity off a tee was well above average at 95 mph. Path to the ball is short and compact, narrow base through contact, slightly inclined plane, long extension out in front. High finish with good balance. Behind the plate he shows the makings of a high-level catcher. Receives with soft hands, stays low in his crouch. On this throws to second he stands up in his crouch, makes ground up towards second, fast quick transfer, clean short arm action, 1.97 to the bag.
