Ian is a high pocket athlete at 6-foot-2, 185-pound right-handed hitting shortstop. He has plenty of range and his glove plays to stay in the middle of the field . He shows above average arm strength and handles the pivot well. At the plate, he shows the ability to spread the field and use the barrel to produce line drives. He can add some strength as he should be a gap to gap offensive player, with the ability to take some bags as a 6.9 runner .

8/12/19: Six-foot-3, 215 pound Ian Fair (Northeastern, 2020) had a strong Cape season with the bat, leading the Harbor Hawks with a .348 batting average. He showed a longer swing and limited power production (.113 ISO). It’s a swing that may struggle against better velocity at the pro level, but he knows what he’s doing in the box and made pitch-to-pitch adjustments with good barrel awareness. An adequate defender at first base, he showed a below average arm and fair range. He may still be recovering from a broken leg that he suffered playing soccer as a high school senior, causing him to red-shirt his freshman (2017) season. (Seifert)
