4/16/14 - Bradley commit. Ranked No. 35 in the state of Illinois. 6-foot-3, 175-pound long gangly frame, slender build. Worked from a ¾ arm slot with a long  free and easy arm action, very little effort. Delivery works against his body at times, closed front side, finishes first base side. Fastball showed excellent action, arm side run with sink down in the zone, stayed in the 83-84 mph range most of the game. Slider was sharp showed good late lateral action, 10/4 shape with swing and miss stuff, 75-76 mph. Trautwein didn’t show his best stuff as we’ve seen his slider up to 82 mph and fastball up to 88 mph, but still showed excellent action in the zone and was able to miss barrels for most of his outing.
6.13.13 - High-ceiling prospect with projectable 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame, long arms and plenty of room to fill out. Trautwein emerged from event as one of the 2014 class’ highest-interest prospects. Shows four-pitch feel with a potentially plus slider. Arm works clean and easily, from high-3/4 slot, comes slightly across body, athletic delivery. Slider is high-level pitch: throws it hard, at 80-82 mph, with sharp, late break. Fastball sat at 87 mph, topping at 88, with late sink and run out of the zone. Also throws a cutter &77 mph) and a 75-77 mph changeup that showed some cut action. Overall, Trautwein has the stuff and upside to become one of the most coveted prospects in the Midwest.

4/30/13 - Currently ranked No. 27 in Illinois’ 2014 class; No. 111 overall. Possesses tremendous upside; has ability to become elite prospect in Midwest. Lanky, extremely projectable 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame with long arms and legs and plenty of room to develop. Arm action is clean, easy, quick, loose and athletic, from high-3/4 slot. Strike-thrower with high pitchability. Works with a plan and purpose. Pitches both sides of the plate with confidence. Throws two-seamer and four-seamer; two-seamer shows late arm-side run. Fastball sat 84-85 mph, touching 87 on occasion. Adds and subtracts velocity well depending on count. Not afraid to work inner-half. Slider has potential to be big-time swing-and-miss pitch. Showed ability to throw slider for strikes and bury it, in the 75-76 range. Also throws a curveball (64-68 mph). Has feel for curve, though command and effectiveness are well behind slider. Works fast; maintains tempo and rhythm throughout. Good bloodlines, too. Father, David, pitched at high level; uncle pitched in the big leagues. In game against Hoffman Estates, he allowed one hit in five innings with six strikeouts and no walks. In all, with Trautwein’s athletic arm action, projectable frame and overall stuff, he likely will continue to see his velocity climb in the coming years. High-ceiling prospect.
