Red-hot Barrington extends win streak to 11

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL – The way Barrington opened up its 2013 campaign, it looked like it was going to be a very long, often painful season. But the Broncos have managed to turn their fortunes, and after Tuesday’s 10-0 whitewashing of Hoffman Estates, Barrington is on an 11-game win streak, including a perfect record in Mid-Suburban League West play.

Barrington improved to 14-7, 8-0 behind a stellar pitching performance by junior right-hander Wyatt Trautwein. The 6-foot-4, 185-pound Trautwein, who’s ranked No. 27 in Illinois’ loaded 2014 class, looked every bit of one of the state’s top junior prospects.

Trautwein yielded one hit in five innings – a two-out single in the third inning – and struck out six with no walks and one hit batsman. He pounded the zone with his two-seamer and four-seamer, curveball, and slider, which, at 74-76 mph, has the makings of a big-time pitch.

Trautwein received more than enough run support against Hoffman Estates (4-12, 2-4). Switch-hitting catcher Ryan Lidge, a Notre Dame recruit who’s one of the few Illinois players receiving legitimate draft buzz this spring, delivered three RBIs via a two-run single and a sacrifice fly. Lidge, who has seven homers this season, also threw a runner out behind the plate.

Ryan’s twin brother, unsigned senior shortstop Dylan Lidge, had three singles, reached base four times and drove in one run. Junior second baseman Joey Sciaccotta went 3-for-3 with a run-scoring double and senior left-fielder Macray Poidomani also had three hits for the Broncos.
