5-12-16: Bats left, throws right. Big powerful player. Stance is in a slight crouch, and open. Bat path is slightly uphill with advanced bat speed. Very strong lower half.  Hit a moonshot over 400 feet off a left-handed change-up which was only 1 of 2 hits Fruita had in the game. Was surprised to see it was his first homerun of the year considering as a junior he hit four. However he hit .507 this year with 11 doubles and 19 RBI's (Had 40 RBI's as a junior, so he was obviously pitched around a lot).

6-1, 180 pounds. Bats L throws R. Bess was a one man wrecking crew for the upstart Fruita Wildcats in 2015. Bess helped lead the Wildcats to a 18-2 record. The 1B/C shows strong power to both gaps with explosive bat speed and strong lower half. Bess hit .562 (2nd in 5A) with 12 doubles, 6 triples, 4 homeruns, and lead 5A baseball with 40 RBI's. All of this created a staggering 1.712 OPS. Bess will be back in 2016 and is a high player to follow in our state.

As a sophomore Bess hit .404 leading the team with 9 doubles and 19 RBI's to go with a 1.134 OPS.

2/15/20: As a redshirt sophomore, Bess slugged his way to spectacular 2019 season (.341/.476/.632) with more walks (42) than strikeouts (41). Currently nursing a sore hamstring, he had a quiet opening weekend with just two plate appearances off the bench as a pinch hitter where he singled and walked.

8/15/19: After a spectacular red-shirt sophomore season which saw Bess lead the Lopes in batting average (.341), slugging percentage (.632) and on-base (.476), the left-handed hitter headed to the Northwoods League where he slashed .235/.343/.386 with five home runs in 166 at-bats. He saved his best for last with four of his five home runs in the last nine games while raising his average from .185 to .235 during this same time period. Limited to a corner defensively, Bess is most valued for his power potential and projects as a potential Day Two college bat for the 2020 draft.
