PBR Midwest ProCase Preview

The inaugural Prep Baseball Report Midwest ProCase will take place Tuesday June 23 at Silver Cross Field in Joliet, IL. The event serves as an identifier for the professional scouting community, and will showcase 50 of the top draft prospects from Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, and South Dakota.
The PBR ProCase is a kickoff to identifying the top prospects in the 2016 draft class. With the 2015 Draft over, scouts across the country have turned their attention to the 2016 class. This event will feature the top 2016 draft prospects in the Midwest.
The Super 60 Pro Showcase in February has been a staple of the Prep Baseball Report's pro coverage over the last 13 years. The PBR ProCase will add to our pro coverage and give scouts the first look into the 2016 draft class. The Super 60 has become one of the most well attended pro showcases on the circuit, simply due to the caliber of players in attendance. We have seen more than 75 professional scouts year after year at the Super 60 and the ProCase will be no different, bringing all of the draft potential candidates from our area into one location to showcase their abilities in front of the professional scouting community. This will also give our staff insight into the possible invites for the following year's Super 60.
Players will participate in a pro-style workout, complete with the 60-yard dash, batting practice, and defensive evaluations broken down by position. Upon the completion of the workout, pitchers will throw in a controlled scrimmage environment.
This year’s roster is sure to excite with several top players from the PBR Overall Rankings in attendance. Texas Christian recruit and two-way threat Cal Coughlin (Lake Forest HS, IL) will bring his low-90s fastball and low-80s slider. Coughlin was up to 93 mph this past winter, while also showing switch-hitting ability at the hot corner.
Minnesota’s top ranked player, RHP Nick Hanson (Prior Lake HS, MN), is ranked No. 81 overall and boasts a physically impressive 6-foot-6, 210-pound frame and is capable of reaching 90 mph with his fastball.
Four of the top 10 prospects in Indiana will be in attendance, led by Indiana recruit Skylar Szynski (Penn HS, IN). Szynski is ranked No. 3 in Indiana, No. 40 overall and was up to 92 mph at last August’s PBR Future Games. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound right-hander impresses with his overall athleticism, running the 60 in 6.87 seconds.
The “Big Three” power arms in Wisconsin—RHP Nate Brown, LHP Jack Eagan, and RHP Alec Marsh—will all be in attendance. Brown and Eagan may be more well known to the professional scouting community, but Marsh (an Arizona State recruit), showed an electric arsenal back in March at the Madison Preseason I.D., sitting 90-92 mph with a hard breaking curveball at 71-73 mph.
