PBR Michigan has all of your high school baseball coverage across the state covered.

Below we announce the inaugural PBR Michigan All-State selections. We first highlight the coach, player and pitcher of the year as well as each of the players that were selected to the 1st team. Below all of the highlights, we have a complete list of the 1st, 2nd and HM selections for Michigan's All-State teams.

Coach of the Year

Brian Morrison, Harland High School
2015 Overview:
Coach Morrison took an under the radar team from Hartland that suffered 16 losses during the regular season on a magical run to remember. Knocking off state powerhouse teams such as West Bloomfield and Kenowa Hills in route to a Division 1 State Title victory over Portage Northern.

Player of the Year

Nick PlummerNick Plummer, OF, Brother Rice, 2015
2015 Overview:
Nick Plummer was selected 23rd overall by the St Louis Cardinals in the 2015 MLB Amateur draft. Plummer is committed to University of Kentucky to play baseball. On the season he hit .500, scored 68 runs, stole 32 bases, drove in 23 runs, while lacing 22 doubles. A solid left-handed bat with a professional approach at the plate. Has started for Brother Rice all 4 years on a state title contending team each year.

 

Pitcher of the Year

Tommy Henry PitchingTommy Henry, LHP, Portage Northern, 2016
2015 Overview:
Tommy is committed to play his college baseball at University of Michigan. The southpaw logged 75 innings, allowing just 4 runs all season (0.37 ERA). The lefty struck out 127 batters while walking just 19, all while compiling 9-1 record. Tommy led his team to the Division 1 State Championship Game.

Coach Christopher Andrews Statement: “Tommy is an all A student. He is one of the most outstanding kids I have ever coached. He has exceptional character and is loved by everyone he is around. As a player, he is the best pitcher I have ever coached. He has an exceptional fastball (88-89 mph) and usually has pinpoint control. He has an outstanding curveball he can throw for a strike anytime he wants. He is often overpower to high school hitters but he is a pitcher that can hit his spots consistently. He is an excellent outfielder and hitter. He is also an outstanding base runner. He has a great sense of the game.”

Drew BlakelyDrew Blakely, Gull Lake, 2016 (University of Virginia commit)
2015 Statistics:
.448 Avg, 7 2B, 5 3B, 5 HR, 42 RBIs, 22 Runs

Coach Bill Blakely statement: “Drew had a very good spring season.  He led our team in average (.448), hits (47), HR (5), RBI (43), Slugging (.785) and set a school record in triples (5).  In addition, he played solid defense with 17 assists from the catcher position and allowing 7 stolen bases on the season.  He will play a challenging summer schedule with the Midwest Athletics to improve as he looks forward to catching at the University of Virginia in the fall of 2016.

Ryan Blake-JonesRyan Blake-Jones, Saline, 2015 (Grand Valley State commit)
2015 Statistics:
.434 Avg, 6 HR, 28 Runs, 34 RBIs

Coach Thiesen statement: “Ryan Blake-Jones was our most valuable offensive player this season.  He consistently drove the ball hard producing many runs.  He led our team in hits and in RBI's.  He batted in the 4 hole most of the year. “

Eric GilgenbachEric Gilgenbach, Stoney Creek, 2015 (Notre Dame commit)
2015 Statistics:
.400 Avg, 10 2B, 3 HR, 25 R, 23 RBIs, 27 BB

Coach Clint Rodgers statement: "Eric was a 4-year starter with a career varsity batting average of .397.  He was named captain, most valuable player, and won the Cougar Award by his peers and coaches for the 2015 season.  Eric is outstanding on and off the field.  He carried a 3.99 GPA throughout his high school career and a model student-athlete.  He continues to be a role model for underclassmen and peers alike.  He was a 4-year starter on the varsity basketball team also."

 


Riley McCauleyRiley McCauley, Sterling Heights Stevenson, 2015 (Michigan St commit)

.480 Avg, 24 2B, 6 HR, 32 RBIs, 31 BB

Coach Joseph Emanuele statement: "Coaches dream! He combines outstanding talent with a fabulous work ethic. Riley has provided consistency at the shortstop position for the past three seasons. He has been a very good hitter providing power and on base percentage.  He also has outstanding arm strength. We are going to miss him."

Coach Steve Lepkowski statement: "Steve is truly gifted athletically and a true 5-tool player. He is a lead-off hitter that hits for power and is always a threat on the base paths. More importantly than his skill set, is that he is one of the true leaders of our program. He was elected captain of our team as a freshman and sophomore. He is an elite player that is always looking to improve on his craft and is a type of kid that is the first to practice and the last to leave. He is on track to be one of the best players we have had in our program which is one that has had many players play at the Division 1 level and several players selected in the MLB draft.”

Nate Grys

Nate Grys, Madison Heights Bishop Foley, 2015 (Western Michigan University commit)
2015 Statistics:
.398 Avg, 11 2B, 1 3B, 4 HR, 30 R, 23 BB, 24 SB

Coach Statement: "Nate is a true 5-tool player. He can hit for both power and average. He has exceptional speed, reaping havoc on the bases and tracking balls in the gap. He even has a great arm. Nate was our captain this year and was a great leader of our very young team."

Coach Dave Gawlak statement: “Blake is a super offensive weapon with a combination of speed and power. On the mound he brings the heat but also has learned to throw a nasty change and a good breaking ball. Defensively he can play anywhere and can make all the throws. He truly is one of those special players and is a joy to watch him play.”

Coach Matt Petry Statement: "Drake Titus was a leader for us in all phases of the game for us this year. He contributed to 15 of our 32 wins on the mound by going 12-2 with 3 saves. He led the team in many offensive categories, such as average, stolen bases, and OBP. Defensively he was our most outstanding player all year at 2B."

Coach Eric Pierce statement: "Chandler has been a dominant force for West Bloomfield Baseball over the last four seasons.  He has an outstanding presence on the mound, commanding three pitches that he can throw for a strike at all times.  He always thrived on pitching in the big game and consistently put us in a position to win.  Chandler also was a staple in the middle of our lineup hitting for both average and power.  He is a hard-worker and a student of the game.  He had an outstanding career at WB and will no doubt contribute early at Indiana."

Coach Pat O’Keefe statement: “He set the career strike out record for the school. 26-3 record during his career. Was a phenomenal pitcher and warrior on the hill for us. He had as much poise as anyone, if I had one game to win I’d give the ball to Tyler! We will definitely miss him in the program. He’s a tremendous person on and off the field. ”



Karl KauffmannKarl Kauffman, Brother Rice, 2016 (University of Michigan commit)
Overview:
Karl is an elite pitcher committed to University of Michigan. Karl pitched in several big games for Brother Rice including a catholic league championship game where he went 6 innings, 9 strikeouts, only allowing 3 hits. Kauffman has hit 95 mph several times this season with his best pitch being a 11/5 sharp breaking curve bal. Kauffman is one of the most feared and dominating pitchers in the state. Will garner draft consideration next June.
