4A Aurora Regional: Plainfield North and Hinsdale Central Advance

AURORA, IL – The 4A Aurora Regional resumed action today after play was washed out due to weather on Wednesday. The action started with top seeded Plainfield North getting by Oswego East 12-6, followed by Hinsdale Central squeaking past host Metea Valley 9-7. Here’s a look at the highlights.
Plainfield North 12, Oswego East 6
The Tigers jumped out to an early 8-1 lead through four innings, as senior right-hander Josh Garner looked in control on the mound. Plainfield North had the bats going early as the Tigers collected 12 hits in the first four innings. The early offense was led by a pair of Alex Steinbach RBI singles.
Oswego East managed to make things close with a four spot in the fifth, cutting the Tiger lead to 8-5. Vince Schwartz delivered the big blow with a two RBI double to get the rally started. However, the Tigers quickly responded with four more of their own in the bottom half, highlighted by a three-run blast off the bat of Tyler Garrity, pushing the Tiger lead to 12-5.
RHP Connor Peplow managed to settle down a late Oswego East rally out of the bullpen and the Tigers advanced to the Regional Finals on Saturday by a final score of 12-8.

Hinsdale Central 9, Metea Valley 7
The Red Devils of Hinsdale Central dug themselves an early 5-0 hole but clawed their way back to capture at 9-7 win thanks to a big six run rally in the third.
Metea Valley struck first with three runs in the first, Blake Nicolls chipped in with an RBI single. The Mustangs then followed that up with a two-spot in the second after a Blake Honda RBI double, giving them a commanding 5-0 lead.
Hinsdale Central started to chip away in the bottom half of the second with three runs. Spencer Garnett and Mitchell Mulvihill contributed with RBI singles. Then the Red Devils struck with the big six run rally in the third. Garnett and Mulvihill did it again, this time Garnett kicked things off with a two-run double, followed by a two-run triple by Mulvihill.
The Red Devil bullpen finished it off from there. Senior southpaw Andrew Jurack recorded the last eight outs to secure a date with Plainfield North in the Regional Championship game on Saturday.
