2017 Joe Cosgrove Shows Solid Tools and Consistency at FL Underclass Games

At our recent Florida Underclass Games at the University of Florida there were a few uncommitted 2017 players who stuck out in both the showcase and game. One of these young men who had a very solid all around event was Joe Cosgrove of Lake Highland Prep.

The 5-foot-9, 165 pound catcher/third baseman has a strong, compact, and medium sized frame with athleticism. At the plate he has good rhythm, gets a good separation, and his bat gets into a strong angle. He gets a good weight transfer, uses his lower half well, has a nice swing plane, and consistently squares the ball up. In the field he has soft hands, enough range for second base or third base, and plenty arm for third base. Behind the plate he has a quick transfer, good feet, and a short, over the top arm action with an ML average arm down to second. He threw 81 mph across the diamond, 76 mph down to second, and produced a 77 mph exit velocity.

Overall, Cosgrove has solid tools across the board. Nothing sticks out but he plays the game hard. He has a very nice swing and approach that projects well at the college level and a solid arm that can play at any position, especially catcher, third base, or second base. Joe will definitely be able to play at the next level and be a solid asset for whoever he ends up signing with.
