Continuing to highlight the strong 2019 class represented at the Florida Underclass Games, SS/RHP Emil Valenzuela of Gulf Coast HS was able to stand out among the younger players at this event. At 6-foot-1, 151 pounds (and he looks taller the 6-foot-1) Valenzuela is lean, athletic, very projectable, and showed loose actions all over the field. Emil will also continue to grow, mature, and gain muscle. Right now, most his tools are solid average for his age but his ability to do everything with ease shows he has a lot more to come as he gets older.
At the plate, he is relaxed and gets a small separation for his load. He possesses a short, quick swing with good bat speed and a nice swing plane that produces line drives to all fields. In the field he has good range with soft hands and an average arm for his age. He threw 71 mph across the diamond and a produced a 74 mph exit bat velocity. On the mound he sat 71-74 mph and threw a 59-63 mph curveball. Emil will definitely be able to play at the next level, likely division I, if he fills out and gets stronger like he should and continues to progress.
