Our staff has dug through our notes, and found a group of players that have impressed us on a consistent basis, that may be flying under the radar. Here is five reports on 2019 grads from across the state.
Ethan Fowler, OF, Catholic High School
Fowler is a 5-foot-10 160-pound outfielder with an athletic frame and build. Defensively he works through the baseball with fluid footwork, and a normal exchange. He throws the ball from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He throws the ball accurately 78 mph from the outfield. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance with a slight load and stride. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing, maintaining balance through extension. He produces exit velocities up to 82 mph. He runs a 4.34 home to 1st time. Overall Fowler is a solid athlete with refined skills, as he matures his raw tools should improve.
John Hoskyns, C, Stuttgart High School
Hoskyns is a 6-foot 180-pound catcher with a large frame and a strong build. He impresses defensively showing adequate technique in blocking and receiving. He throws pop times that range between 2.01- 2.13 with accuracy. Offensively Hoskyns shows the ability to hit for power due to physical strength and bat speed. He starts from an athletic stance, uses a simple load stride and an attacks the baseball with fast bat speed and a slight uphill bat path. Overall Hoskyns is a physical player with a high ceiling as he refines his game.
William Plafcan, OF/CIF, Catholic High School
Plafcan is a 5-foot-9 135-pounc infielder with an athletic frame and build. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance, he uses a slight leg lift and a simple hand load. He attacks the baseball with a line drive swing with advanced bat speed. Defensively he plays through the baseball with choppy footwork and normal glove actions. He uses a quick exchange and throws the baseball from a ¾ arm slot with a short arm action. He runs a 4.04 home to first. Overall Plafcan is an advanced athlete with a solid base to develop from, as he moves forward.
Zane Neves, RHP, Jonesboro High School
Neves is a 5-foot-10 190-pound right-hander with an athletic frame and a large build. His fastball works 81-83 mph and has been as high as 84 mph. He throws and curveball and changeup as his secondary pitches. He pitches from an H ¾ arm slot with a quick arm. He repeats his delivery consistently allowing him to throw strikes. Overall Neves is a physical player with above average arm strength.
Tyler Odell, RHP, Pea Ridge High School
Odell is a 6-foot-3 175-pound right hander with a large frame and an athletic build. He pitches from a H 3/4 arm slot with a quick clean arm action. He repeats his tall and fall delivery consistently, allowing him to command his fastball consistently. His fastball works 79-82 mph with late break. He compliments his fastball with a curveball with 11/5 shape and late break thrown 69-72 mph. Overall Odell is a large framed athlete with a quick arm and a feel to pitch.
