TN State Tourney Report: D-II, Class A

Tim Kay
PBR Tennessee Director of Scouting

The state tournament has concluded and champions earned their title

We will take a look at each classification and discuss the standouts players and champions below that we were able to lay eye son.

Division II, Class A saw 4 teams come to Murfreesboro.  We were able to sit on the final 2 games of the event, as CAK defeated Tipton-Rosemark twice to take the title.  We have previously seen all 4 teams, so these write-ups will be short.

HUNTER LOYD / RHP / OF / CAK, TN / 2019

FB (85-89, T90), SL (78-80), CH (78)

-       5 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

-       2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

ETSU commit had a day to remember, collecting two wins in elimination games and delivering the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th to win a state title.  Loyd was very similar to our first look in late February, touching 90 early and settling in 86-88.  Relied heavily on his FB in the 2 outings, throwing it for 72 of his 79 pitches.  Pitch plays up due to deception in the delivery, downhill plane.  Shows occasional short arm side run.  Short ¾ tilt SL flashed late bite, put-away pitch potential.  Threw one CH w/ short sink and fade, arm-speed.  Strike thrower filled the zone w/ his FB, showed control of his secondary stuff.  Generated 10 swing and misses on 44 swings.
