April 13, 2011
By Sean Duncan
The inaugural ?Do It Stevie?s Way 2:19? Baseball Challenge is set for this Sunday, April 17 at Standard Bank Stadium in Crestwood. The four-game event includes some of the state?s best teams and, most importantly, it is for a great cause.
The all-day baseball event is a commemoration of Steven Bajenski, a standout second baseman for Mount Carmel who, as a senior, unexpectedly passed away in 2009. To learn all about Steven Bajenski and his inspirational life, visit his memorial website HERE.
Sunday?s schedule starts off with a bang:
10 a.m. ? No. 1 Providence Catholic vs. No. 18 Marian Catholic
1 p.m. ? No. 13 St. Laurence vs. Lincoln-Way East
4 p.m. ? No. 7 St. Rita vs. Lincoln-Way West
7 p.m. ? No. 6 Mount Carmel vs. Lincoln-Way Central.
See great baseball and support a great cause.
>> Speaking of Mount Carmel, when I was at its game in Rockford against Boylan last Saturday, I witnessed one of the more remarkable catches I?ve seen during a high school game. The catch was made by left fielder Pat Fahey, who robbed Boylan standout junior Joe Kubera of a home run ? and the Titans of any momentum.
A local TV cameraman was on hand for a few innings and caught the catch on film. CLICK HERE to see the catch yourself.
