Young Southpaws

Just beginning their freshman seasons, these players are already creating a bit of a buzz around their states. This week, On the Hunt takes a look at some 2022 left-handed pitchers that are ones to follow this spring and moving forward. Though they have hardly step foot on a varsity diamond, each of these arms presents plenty of upside, and with some seasoning over time, could end up being an impact pitcher at the next level.

Ty Federici LHP / OF / Lake-Lehman, PA / 2022

Already one of the top prospects in the 2022 class, Federici has continued to progress early on in his high school career, and recently put on a display at the PBR Pennsylvania Preseason All-State. At 6-foot-1, 220-pounds with a barrel chest and some thicker, defined strength throughout, Federici is physically advanced for his age, and is already producing impressive numbers as both a position player and pitcher. The right-handed hitter produced a 100 mph exit velocity off the tee, and showcased the ability to lift the ball while driving slightly uphill through the zone with fast hands. He gets more aggressive use of the lower-half and does not get cheated with each swing. The strong-armed southpaw unleashed throws of 93 mph from the outfield before hopping on the bump and running his fastball up to 90 mph. Utilizing a simple, athletic delivery, Federici drops and drives down the mound aggressively as his arm works freely through a loose, medium-sized swing before quickly jumping out of the hand out front with normal effort. The fastball features some natural arm side life at 88-90, and he flashed some feel for a changeup at 79-83 along with a developing slider at a firm 82-85. Federici’s physicality and aggression will allow him to quickly make adjustments moving forward, and coaches will likely be heading out to get an early look at him this summer.
