Where Are They Now?: 2016 SS Nolan Jones
January 23, 2021
Ranked No. 2 in the Pennsylvania Class of 2016, Nolan Jones (Holy Ghost Prep) has made a steady climb through the Cleveland Inidians organization to the point he is now regarded as their No. 1 prospect.
While naturally an infielder, Jones has worked hard this off-season to make the transition to the outfield. Many publications have Jones penciled in as an every day starter for the Indians in the outfield come April.
A .283 hitter over four seasons of minor league baseball, Jones has hit 38 career home runs and has driven in 171.

Scouting Report
11/12/15 Jones has been swinging a hot bat since the end of July. He took a good BP at East Coast Pro and went 4-for-12 before heading west to Long Beach. He started to heat up late in the Area Code Games and made loud contact, even on his outs. He went 5-for-11 there. During BP in Long Beach, he had a wide set-up with some length to his swing, but he stood taller in games and shortened up. He had a pull approach in BP as well, but showed the ability to go to the left side with authority in games. Scouts were all over his at-bats at the World Wood Bat Championship in Jupiter, where he went 5-for-15 with a home run. He’s an average runner and will likely move off shortstop as he fills out his 6-foot-4, 185-pound frame, but he should have enough arm strength to fit at third base. Jones jumped 19 spots to No. 6.
3/25/15 Coming straight off a state ice hockey championship, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Jones sat 87-89 and touched 90-mph in his first inning of work out of the bullpen on an overcast, mid-40s degree day. Mid-70s slider had late bite and generated a number of swings-and-misses. Velo dropped to 85-87 in his second inning. The left-handed hitter also recorded a 91-mph exit velocity on a single up the middle his first at-bat. Most notably, Jones' body is maturing and he has quite noticeably added strength to his frame, especially his lower half.
5/6/14 Lean frame with room to add strength. Left-handed hitter starts from slightly open stance. Smooth stroke. Average infield actions. Low elbow to creates some push action on throw. Played both 2B & 3B this game.
