West Virginia Top Prospect Games Spotlight: 2020 Clay Maholic

The 2019 WV Top Prospect Games is quickly approaching. As we draw closer to June we will be periodically highlighting some of the prospects scheduled to participate. Today we continue our preview with a look at 2020 OF Clay Maholic. The left-handed hitting junior hit .287 with five doubles, three triples, one homerun and 12 RBI.

He uses his body and midsection well to create a powerful turn with his hips. His bat stays in the zone and shows the ability to drive the ball to all fields. A 78 mph exit velocity was recorded. A 7.32-laser timed 60 was also recorded.
Defensively, Maholic rounds the ball well. He carries his momentum well into his throws. He sees the ball well and has supreme confidence in his skills.
11.18.18 - 6-foot, 195-pound left handed hitter, Maholic initiates his swing from a athletic stance, with his hands near his ear. He uses his body and midsection well to create a powerful turn with his hips. Maholic's bat stays in the zone and shows the ability to drive the ball.
Defensively, Maholic rounds the ball well. He carries his momentum well into his throws. He has the potential to be a next level outfielder.
7/12/17 5-foot-11, 185-pound left-handed hitter, Maholic initiates swing from open set up with knee to knee leg kick and stride to closed. Open to closed stride is associated with some top half dive. There is also a tendency to land on stiff front leg. He does demonstrate loose hands and an aggressive lower half turn. Maholic would benefit from striding to neutral and avoiding upper half dive.
Defensively, Maholic does get behind ball consistently and plays through. He would benefit from being more decisive in reads.
