Washington 2022 Rankings
September 28, 2020
Despite all the challenges that players throughout Washington had to deal with this year, we were still treated to terrific baseball action and outstanding performances on the diamond. While the last 6-7 months haven’t been easy, it didn’t take away from the passion and joy that young athletes show when they’re able to compete in-between the lines.
Through it all, we’ve been able to continue our scouting coverage and expanded our rankings lists. The 2022 class features a diverse assortment of talent, highlighted by one of the premiere players in the entire country.
Beyond that, there is tremendous depth in this updated list and several players outside of the top 20 or 30 who will make a strong case for themselves to ascend higher in our next rankings release.
The 2022 rankings expanded from 50 to 100 for right now and will continue to grow after we get through our Fall and Winter events.

Consistency at the top…
Not much changes for the upper half of the 2022 class. JR Ritchie (Bainbridge) has a firm hold on the #1 spot and he shows no signs of slowing down. The recent UCLA commit is a Top 20 player nationally and currently ranks as the 2nd best RHP in the country in national rankings. SS Tyce Peterson (Juanita), LHP Sam Boyle (Columbia River), RHP Parker Smith (Central Valley) and INF Dominic Hellman (Jackson) round out the top 5.
Peterson and Boyle have continued to be consistent since they established themselves over a year ago with breakout performances. Smith has missed some time this summer with an injury but when he’s on, he has the arm action, present stuff and projectablity to be an impact arm. Lastly, Hellman has arguably the best raw power in the state. He’s made significant gains on his frame and build but there’s reason to believe he could continue to get even more physical down the road. If that’s the case, he’ll make a strong case to climb up even higher.
LHP Sam Boyle
Upside arms....
Jackson Cox (Toutle Lake), Felix Schlede (West Seattle) and Ryan Orr (Tumwater) make up the remaining arms in the top 10. All 3 present an advanced skill-set and different attributes that make them unique in their own right. Right now, Cox gets the nod for his consistent low 90’s FB and the ability to spin a hard slider that has swing & miss potential. Schlede and Orr have also made strides in their overall game though and have impressed on our in-game looks this summer.
‘22 RHP Ryan Orr (WA) is going to be an intriguing follow moving forward.

Clean arm that worked mostly 84-87 w/ minimal effort. Spin took better shape than previous showings & aptitude present.

Athletes…
Neither Colton Bower (North Kitsap) or Aidan Dougherty (Mt. Si) are no strangers to the top 10. They’ve both held their ground since we began ranking this class over a year okay. They continue to excel due to the overall strength, athleticism and ability to do damage to the baseball. Their positional versatility also helps them impact the game in other ways
