Hayfield

 Classification: VHSL 6A / Region C    2022 Record:

The Hawks have reached some heights as a program over the past two seasons that they have not achieved in a long time. This year’s senior class has been a key to that resurgence and should drive the Hawks to compete for a State Tournament berth again this season. The arms at the top of Hayfield’s rotation have been the key and will be again this year as seniors Kenny Michaels (Wofford), Owen Kashawlic, Nick Griffin, and Palmer Griffin (Roanoke) are back for one more run. Offensively, Eric Powell (Mary Washington) and Colin Souther should be key pieces to the Hayfield lineup.

Lake Braddock

 Classification: VHSL 6A / Region C

The Bruins had a spectacular first season under Coach Johann Tiamson, picking up right   where the long history of the outstanding Lake Braddock program had been under the   great coaches from the program's past; Dan Griel, Jody Rutherford, and John Thomas. The Bruins reached the Class 6 State Semifinals before falling in a heartbreaker to Freedom. Gone is ace JB Manarchuck (Mt. St. Mary's), but there is a lot to love about the roster for 2023. On the mound, look for Jake Drumm to move to the top of the rotation for his junior season. Drumm and Manarchuck have formed a great 1-2 for the Bruins for 2 years, so look for the battle-tested, strike-throwing junior to be ready to pitch in that role. Offensively, senior Evan Schick (Marymount) is back and the breakout player of the 2022 season. Another Mount St. Mary's commit that will help lead the lineup is senior catcher Jack McCarthy. Junior MIF Jaime Laskofski is back as well and should be a big piece in the order. Add to those players, the steady flow of athletic talent that has always been at Lake Braddock, and the Bruins will be a force to be reckoned with this spring.

Key Returners:

West Potomac

 Classification: VHSL 6A / Region C

The Wolverines narrowly missed a State Tournament berth in 2022 and are again poised   to be a strong team in Region C. Their calling card in recent years has been a slew of   arms that have rolled through and this year that looks again to be the case. Senior Bennett Zippel (Randolph-Macon) was outstanding last year and should slot right back in as a dominant arm this spring. The key for the Wolverines is senior righty Brody Shawn (Wake Forest), who has one of the most electric arms in Virginia, but fought some command issues last season. If Shawn can join Zippel to give West Potomac a dominant one-two on the mound this spring, they will be a force late in May. Look for juniors Alex Harris and John Colligan to be poised for big season offensively.

Key Returners:

West Springfield

Classification: VHSL 6A / Region C

The 2018 State Champs are going to be an interesting team this spring. A lot of their core from 2022 returns and they should have a deep lineup for Coach Olms. On the mound, look for seniors Jake Treasure, Alex Grehawick, and Henry Pastel to give the Spartans a deep veteran group to work with. Offensivley, seniors Eric Fila, Jeremy Stine (Bloomsburg), and Jaylon Surell (Stevenson) are back, as is sophomore Kaleb Williams who had a standout freshman season. Williams and fellow sophomore Patrick Sido have a chance to become centerpieces in the Spartan offense this spring.
