Today, we are unveiling our Small School Top 10. This features ten of the best VHSL 1A and VHSL 2A schools in Virginia/DC.
Opening us up at #1 are the Lebanon Pioneers. Lebanon has a nearly perfect season, losing two games on back to back days to Tennessee High in late March. For comparison's sake, the only team they lost to is 26-6 and in the Tennessee state tournament this week. Outside of those two games, Lebanon has allowed twenty-eight runs over twenty games and have scored two-hundred and three runs. The Pioneers have won nineteen straight and have some depth in their lineup and rotation that is rare at the 1A level.
Coming in at #2 are the Chatham Cavaliers. Chatham is a perennial power and have some star power in their lineup and on the mound. Their two losses came early in the year to defending state champs, Appomattox, and Tunstall. Since then Chatham has defeated Appomattox and Tunstall fairly convincingly.
Poquoson checks in at #3 in the rankings. The Islanders have had some head scratching losses, but also have some very good wins versus much larger schools. Storied program, experienced coaching, and talent allow the Islanders to have a good chance to make a run in 2A.
Stay tuned over the next two weeks as we continue to update these rankings.
