The weekend saw three more champions crowned in Virginia/DC as VISAA held its State Championships at Shepherd Stadium in Colonial Heights. On Saturday, Walsingham Academy captured the Division III crown, its fourth in a row, and Highland School won the Division II title, the program's first championship. The Division I Championship was postponed until Sunday, but Cape Henry was able to win that and capture the crown. We were also supposed to crown a DCSAA Champ on Sunday evening, but severe storms in DC postponed that game, which will be made up on Wednesday. That game pits DCIAA Champ Jackson-Reed (Wilson) against WCAC Champ Gonzaga.
The regular season wrapped up and some parts of Virginia held District Tournaments last week. At the top of the Rankings, Colgan and Freedom won their District Tournaments, with Freedom knocking of Battlefield twice in four days. Independence also won the Potomac District Tournament and McLean and Oakton enter the rankings this week as District Champions as well, with McLean winning the Liberty and Oakton beating rival Chantilly for a third time this spring to win the Concorde. Hat tips go out to Lake Braddock, Hayfield, and Wilson Memorial as well, winning the Patriot, National, and Shenandoah Districts, respectively.
With the schedule moving to the Region playoffs this week, we will not release a new Power 25 until June 6, which will be the Monday after the completion of the Region Championships and before the VHSL State Tournaments.
