Updated Class of 2018 Rankings
February 22, 2018
With the 2018 spring high school season in full swing, it’s time to make an update to the Florida Class of 2018 Rankings. This class features plenty of high-end draft talent at the top of the list, including several players who will look to hear their names called on Day 1 of the MLB Draft. RHP Mason Denaburg has still held onto the top spot as he most recently had an impressive performance at the PBR Florida Preseason Classic, featuring a mid 90s fastball with above average off-speed stuff and striking out 10 in his first preseason start.
We have not only made quite a few adjustments, but we have now expanded the 2018 rankings to 200 players. Also, make sure to stay tuned to the website as with our updated rankings will soon come an updated PBR Draft 100.
Below we take a look at the Top 5 with full breakdown and video along with a complete look at how the Top 10 stacks up:
Mason Denaburg RHP / C / Merritt Island, FL / 2018Florida recruit. Solidified himself as a top half of the first round type player. The delivery continues to improve as he repeats and gets better extension. He is extremely athletic and shows adjust-ability on the mound and the athleticism lends to an extremely high upside. The fastball works at 94-96 mph early on before settling in around 91-94. Maybe most importantly, he has showed a much improved slider that flashed plus at times, working 77-81 mph with late action and tighter spin. Also mixes in an 81-83 mph changeup with fade and sink.

Nander De Sedas SS / 2B / Montverde Academy, FL / 2018Florida State recruit. Compact swing from both sides of the plate that creates consistent, hard contact with gap-to-gap power. He is an average runner, but has above average instincts and feel for the position. Quality first step, lateral agility and takes efficient angles to the point to be an average to above average defender and stick at shortstop. The bat really plays up and has a professional approach.
|
Slade Cecconi RHP / Trinity Prep, FL / 2018Miami recruit. Cecconi has a projectable frame with broad shoulders at 6-foot-4, 195 pounds. He pitches with a methodical, easy delivery and sits 91-94, running his fastball up to 97 at times and getting some sink to it. He comes through a high-3/4 slot with a loose, quick arm. His breaking ball has been inconsistent at times, but it flashes two-plane break and tight spin. He also mixes in a changeup at 83-84 mph.
|
Triston Casas 1B / RHP / American Heritage, FL / 2018The Miami recruit stands at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds with a physical presence in the box. His calling card is the bat as he projects to hit for average as well as plus power. He has a simple yet powerful swing and uses the whole field. Possesses the biggest power potential in his class. Shows solid defensive actions around the bag at first with an above average arm on his throws across the diamond.
|
Carter Stewart RHP / Eau Gallie, FL / 2018Mississippi State recruit. Stewart has made a nice jump in velocity while still maintaining his lower effort delivery. He works under control, with a quiet head and repeats well. He shows above average command of the fastball that sits mostly 91-93 mph touching 95, which is a nice jump from the fall. He has a great feel for his plus curveball at 79-83 mph, not only having swing and miss ability, but can also throw it for strikes. He flashes an occasional changeup at 80-81 mph. Stewart has been impressive recently which should lend him to a rising stock throughout the spring.
