Today’s unsigned senior spotlight features New Trier RHP David Richman. Richman showed well at the Unsigned Senior Games in August topping out at 85 mph. He is a strong bodied 6-foot, 205-pound right handed pitcher with a solid lower half. He worked exclusively from the stretch using a long arm action from an over the top slot. Richman threw mainly a straight four seam fastball with downhill action at 83-84 mph, touching 85 mph. He also mixed in a curveball with 11/5 action at 62-65 mph.
Richman said there have been a few schools that have expressed interest in him including Northern Illinois, Depauw and Michigan State.
Although he has yet to make any official visits he said he has unofficially visited Pittsburgh, Michigan State, Northern Illinois and Eastern Illinois.
In 2013 Richman played the role of closer for the New Trier Trevians. He ended the year with a perfect 4-0 record with a 1.23 ERA and striking out 23 batters to just three walks. The Trevians are returning seven starters in 2014 and Richman is hoping to be a key contributor on the mound for New Trier.
Richman is also sporting a 2.7 GPA with a 30 on his ACT.
