Unsigned Senior Spotlight: C Dominick Vest

Arizona Scouting Staff
PBR

Throughout the year PBR will put the spotlight on a number of uncommitted prospects who show the necessary tools to play at the next level. 2019 Dominick Vest showed up at our biggest event of the summer, the 2019 Top Prospect Games and intrigued with his loose wrists and natural loft in his swing combined with solid receiving ability. He returned to our Unsigned Senior Showcase this fall and again showed an intriguing skill set and continues to stand out for his makeup and energy on the field.  Check out the full report below. As always, contact [email protected] or direct message @PBRArizona on Twitter with any questions and/or commitment information.

Scouting Report

10/10/18 - 6-foot, 175-pound frame. Vest is another catcher that doesn't stand out from a tools standpoint, but has consistently performed at the high school level and does a really solid job receiving. He posted a best pop time of 2.12 with 72 mph velocity, but has shown better in the past and should be a serviceable defender with advanced makeup. Vest has the type of swing that could really work for him as he continues to add strength. With loose wrists and an easy rhythm, he’s looking to lift and pull and shows solid present pop for current level of physicality. Also posted 7.58 60-yard dash.

6/27/18 - 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame. Hit from an open stance from the right side. Very short stride, minimal weight transfer, could get more out of his lower half. Barrel gets on plane very early, some length in the swing, looking to get extended, maintains balance throughout swing; 86 mph exit velocity. Defensively worked out behind the plate posting a best pop time of 2.09 and a 75 mph catcher velocity. Did not come out of crouch prematurely, quick transfer, long stride to gain ground, quick arm action. Also ran an impressive 7.03 60-yard dash.
