Unsigned Senior Showcase: Statistical Analysis

By Drew Locascio & Jaron Robinson
Illinois Scouting Staff

On Sunday, January 12th the PBR Illinois and Wisconsin staffs teamed up to host the winter’s Unsigned Senior Showcase at The MAX sports facility in McCook, Ill. The event featured 30 uncommitted seniors still looking for a place to play at the next level.

30 college coaches from across the Midwest were in attendance for the pro-style workout which featured bullpens in the morning, followed by position players in the afternoon.

Today, we’ll be analyzing the top statistical performers from this event. Within the next few weeks, videos from this event will be posted into profiles and we will have scouting reports on each of the prospects in attendance. For now, here are the stat leaderboards in each of the measured categories taken from the showcase.

MAX FASTBALL VELOCITY

The top two velocities at the event also belonged to arguably the top two pitching prospects at the event. 6-foot-4, 200-pound, wide-shouldered, RHP Blake Oesterblad (Loyola Academy), ran his fastball up to 89 mph and paired it with a late, sharp biting slider that has swing-and-miss potential. Wisconsin's RHP Charlie Campbell (South Milwaukee) oozes projection, not only with his 6-foot-6, 190-pound frame but also his long, loose arm action and lively fastball that touched 87 mph. Campbell also showed off feel for a changeup at the bottom of the zone.

TOP 60-YARD DASH

Indiana's Max Weller (Chesterton) found himself at the top of almost every numerical category from the event. Weller blew away the rest of the competition running a 6.59 laser-timed 60. Left-handed hitting, David Galandak (St. Joseph) ran the second-best 60 of the day, 6.94.

TOP EXIT VELOCITY

OF Max Weller (Chesterton, IN) once again topped the leaderboard with his triple-digit exit velocity of 101 mph from the tee. Weller carried it over to the field where he took one of the top rounds of BP on the day. Left/left, two-way prospect, Alijah Acevedo (Kaneland) put up the second-best exit velocity of the day, 96 mph.

TOP INFIELD VELOCITY

1B Daniel Murczek (Marist) played with light, active feet around the first base bag and led all infield velocities, topping at 84 mph across the diamond.

TOP OUTFIELD VELOCITY

Weller's name once again shows up well ahead of the second-best outfield velocity thanks to his top throw of 94 mph. 6-foot-6, 180-pound, OF Kyle Wodziak (Naperville Central), recorded the second-best outfield velocity of 86 mph. Wodziak also recorded the fourth best exit velocity on the day, 90 mph.

TOP CATCHER VELOCITY

Tyler Oman (Westminster Christian) showed a traditional catchers arm action, short and over-the-top and topped at 72 mph from the crouch. Oman also was a workhorse during the bullpen sessions.
