The Underclassmen Showcase was October 4th at Little Rock Christian Academy. There was several good players in attendance, as the week continues we will look at the top players from each position. Today we will focus on the top catcher.
J. Paul Fullerton, Catcher, Harding Academy, 2016
The 6 foot 1 185 pound athletic built catcher threw 1.93-1.97 pop times. He blocks and receives well. His footwork could clean up if he would get more linear. Offensively, Fullerton has a line drive swing that is compact. I would like to see him fire the bottom half more, on a consistent basis. The tools are solid but the intangibles seem to better as he commands the game well and has a high motor.
Trayce Williams, Catcher, Green County Tech, 2016
The 6 foot 1 150 pound catcher blocks and receives well. He threw 2.14-2.20 pop times His arm is better than the pop times show. He possess a strong accurate arm that carries. If he will cleans up some footwork his pop time will greatly improve. Offensively he starts from an athletic stance and has a good approach and an opposite field swing. He carried himself well, I would like to see him be more vocal.
Lane Herndon, Catcher, Greenbrier HS, 2016
The 5 foot 11 175 catcher blocks and receives well, he played with a lot of energy. His best pop time was 2.18. If he will clean up his exchange his arm strength is better than a 2.18. He has a good offensive approach. He had the best exit velocity of any catcher in camp registering 80 mph.
